well i don´t know if he will be able to do it....but i was able to Run Soul Calibur 2 at full speed with Chankast on my sister´s PC (AMD 2,2Mhz) with a ati 9700pro video card. ok the dreamcast hardware is diferent than the ps2 hardware, anyways both consoles are powerfull. what i want to explain is that Chankast emulates the dreamcast at very good speed on a PC with 2,2Mhz. of course you will need more power to emulate the ps2 as well as the gamecube. as for the technical stuff.. i don´t know if he realize what he´s about to start.

The dreamcast certainly doesnt require as much power to emulate as newer consoles like the PS2 etc thats for sure, but i doubt the forementioned EmuOS will actually make much difference

This is just getting pathetic. We now have admittance that he has no prior programming or Linux experience at all.
My appologies, but there are not. Programmers are needed more than anything, and even I'm not much useful there as my only abilties include hardware, graphic, and web design. Interesting because for once I find myself at a disadvantage... but no matter, as I'm currently reading up on the programming code and teaching it to myself, much like I did the violin.
They basically have no real programmers working on the project and, in an effort to pick a few stupid ones up, he promises this...
Yes, it's donations only. However, there's a very good chance that after we complete this, we can sell pre-configured PCs with this installed as a free OS and make a fairly good profit.
Laughable. All he'd accomplish by attempting to sell it is he'd make himself the legal target of Sony and Nintendo.

Samor: There's a difference between being honest and a complete raving lunatic. If he were being honest, he wouldn't make an initial post that completely misrepresents himself and his impossible project. He should just come right out and say, "look, me and this other guy aren't really programmers and we don't know all that much about hardware or how it works, but we had this idea to try and see if running an emulator in an environment with very little services and drivers would make any sort of noticeable impact on its speed. We haven't tested it out ourselves, but we'd like to know if it's even possible before we go off wasting our time and, if it is feasible, would anybody be interested in helping out in creating an operating system based on this theory?" Instead, he presents himself and this "team" as experienced individuals and programmers that know what they're doing. They've "run numbers" and everything seems to check out. This will work. They're 70% along already yet still aren't sure of the final feature spec, but they're looking for qualified individuals to help out (do all the work for them).

Just because you use the same forum ID, doesn't mean you're up front or that you have nothing to hide. Hell, I use the same forum ID everywhere and even my real full name in more professional environments, but I don't consider that to make me any more or less credible. I just don't like having to remember a bunch of different forum logins.

The point is that this guy came in here, misrepresented he and his "team's" (one friend's) experience, claimed to be 70% completed with an impossible task and started telling everybody "this will work." When in reality, it's just a couple of dudes with no real experience that have a worthless idea they need other people to do all the work for. When somebody first questioned his claims, he whipped out the "we're l33t, we've got numbahs" card and then when those more knowledgable than him started refuting his claims with cold hard facts, he turns all emo, runs to his LJ, and cries about it.

hushy's right. This is highly reminiscent of the Andrew Hruska incident. That guy really didn't know jack about anything, yet he sure wanted others to believe he could do it all. This Internet ego thing...it's a joke, man.

ah, you found that one as well;
I guess you found his friends' posts and homepage as well then ;)
Final Fantasy fans they are definately, so they'd blend in nicely on emuforums ;)

Maybe I'm giving the guy too much credit, I already found out he didn't have much programming experience and that he said so himself on that other forum.
I just think that he had good intentions, but is either too optimistic, too naive or both....or maybe I am too naive for thinking that ;)

rofl!! man that guy is an absolute dreamer, bet he thinks hes going to get a knighthood for this as well.

Man, it's the stuff like this that brought me back here.

The guy's Livejournal says it all really. The fact he USES a Livejournal says it all really. :D

According to his website, the "first release" will be in March. I say keep this thread open until then... either to appraise or to tear apart.

its going to be interesting to see him write 4gb of code in 3 months, PCSX2 has been going for about 5 years and its only 1.5mb ;p

That sounds like a challenge :D . Maybe if you give him a couple of gallons of Red Bull he might be able to do it. Place your bets ladies and gentlemen, place your bets. ;)

shadow_cast: do i have grounds to judge him now? i'm pretty sure that flare just nailed this guy into the floor.

I THINK HE'S TALKING TO US

Grah... I'm about ready to kill.

As a few of you know, FlameAlchemist2 and myself started a project to repackage and revamp Linux as an emulator-specific OS. We did this because Windows just utilizes too many processes to emulate things well enough to work with a PS2 emulator. So, I decided to post on emulation forums for input. Now I keep hearing all this praise for Windows; How nothing more can be done, that faster processors are just needed, that I'm full of **** for even TRYING at this project. I even read that because I'm a "new member" I could be lying. What the hell is that? I use this goddamned name for every ****ing thing, so I'll just go join a couple of ****ing forums and ruin it so no one even listens to me anymore. What the **** am I? 12? Meh... ****ing retards.

I'm not giving up on the project, but I'm about to the point now where I think I'll just tell them all to **** off. I've tried to be polite and answer all their questions one by one. I've put up with tons of ****, just in the name of the project. I've got a wife and daughter to take care of and spend time with, money to bring in, and quite frankly I'd much rather shoot the **** with friends than listen to these cock-smacks rant at me when I'm not programming. It's like they expect me to be some little geek that just sits in his parents basement all day and night programming. Well **** you. **** you very much. FlameAlchemist and I are doing the project for ourselves, not for a whole bunch of whiny little pre-teen brats who want to play their games for free, or already have the consoles because "mommy and daddy" bought them. When it's finished, it'll be uploaded. Don't think it'll work? Don't try it. Trust me when I say something is working? Try it. Othrewise, if you have no interest in actually helping with the project or don't think it'll work, shut the **** up until we screw up and you're able to say "told ya' so".

So, the project will continue as scheduled. No more public input, because quite frankly I don't give a rat's ass what they think. I mean, they obviously don't think it'll work so there's no use in worrying about someone trying to steal the idea while we complete our work.

Oh, and by the way... I know "you're" reading this and quite honestly my browser shows this page fine. Can't see it right? That's your problem. Don't blame the html just because I don't cater to people who use lower screen resolutions.

...Mother of God with a chainsaw, I feel better after getting that out.
by the way in the wedding pics did you notice he looks like a nazi poster boy :p

I'm no emu coder and I know the DC isn't as powerful as the PS2, but don't you think it has got more to do with the accessability of the system in a way of that the DC has a much more conventional 'PC like' setup than the PS2?

We can't close this thread, it's the most entertaining thing that's happened for a while.
I think this makes him the first contestant for this year's awards :p

@ Seta-San: And he hasn't even met our real PS2 n00bs

Anyway, I think it's pretty obvious by now. He has a dream, but it's probably going to stay a dream forever judging from the things Flare pointed out. Of course, I'm still in for a pleasant surprise from his side. :p

... things need to mature quickly in this thread. =\

Sure, it's unlikely his project will show any gains in performance. He has very little coding experience. His team may even have cooked some numbers and boasted too much from the get-go. They're optimistic. They're in all likelyhood dead wrong and won't achieve much, but...

Why take it upon yourselves to flame this guys personal life? You're insulting his wife, child, wedding, appearance, interests, etc. etc.? Christ, what kind of people are we in this forum? You're even congratulating those who take him apart at a personal level? What exactly did this guy do to deserve so much aggression exactly? ...

... oh yeah. He thought we might be interested in an overly ambitious project of his. He was then summarily executed for his intentions - however far-flung they may very well be. Got a little defensive too when someone somewhat rudely criticized his idea. Shame on him. Time to take his life apart.

From my perspective, this is an embarrassment to emuforums ... it even validates some of the heated comments he made on his LJ.
