Why do they do that?

This is one of many questions that pop in my head, hope I can learn something from this.

So I see people having names as Satanic, Devil, using the 666 numbers on purpose, Satanic symbols and the sort, listening to death metal or whatever is called.

What I want to know is, why do they do that?
Is it ignorance or they do it on purpose, knowing what does things mean?
What drives them to use those things?

I don't want to offend anybody with this thread, just want to get some info out of this.

They think it's cool and rebellious. It's just innacurate, should be 616.

or Ihateyourfakegodofskycheese - that name is better imo.

People do it because they like it. They get excited by the fact that they are hated by many and loved by others. They like disorder and chaos. They are like G.W.Bush, except for the obvious emo 'fashion' surrounding it.

no.. its because we think religion is a load of horse****, and seek to challenge it by not being struck down by lightening every 20 seconds.

And what IF you would... How do you recognize if it was Zeus' or Thor's? I doubt it'd come with a nametag.

Thor creates thunder with his hammer, not lightening :p (and earth quakes)

For thunder we need lightning, just like we need fire for smoke, at least, back then they did.

Thunder does not require lightening :p

sure we know lightening creatives thunder, but so does blowing stuff up :p

Simply a sign of the times.

It saddens me to no end.

Music is music. There's nothing wrong with that. But I will die a thousand times before I name my "Lucifer" Why ally yourself with such things? It's a fools errand.

People need to wake up. Seriously.

Well, taking in account what I know about Death/Black Metal and the likes, all this "antichrist/satanist crusade" are actually anti-christianism. It seems this trend started somewhere around Scandinavia, that has relatively recent Christian institucionalization.

So, in a way, it is a turnback to what some may call classic/original culture. Romantic in essence, just like Knight tales in Europe. This implies in behavioural patterns that gets away from religious dogmas and prohibitions, and go further and further to show that these norms have no sense or purpose, and, at the same time, taking into account a romanticized vision on viking behaviour: "what would a berserker do? what would a troll do?". It may kind of preaches cultural purification. Such purification sometimes manifests as nazisms in some vertents of Black/Death Metal.

So, it is not evil or attentionwhoring in essence. It has a point and a meaning. Of course, there are the so-called "posers" that sometimes leads those to oblivion.

I'm so glad some people know the difference between the two. Some people who know my self association with spirituality assume I'm religious.

I also identify myself with that statement (I am indifferent towards religion itself, by the way).

Uh... I doubt that. You make it sound like people actually think about a deeper reason for choosing devil stuff.
