O_O where did u get that? for some reason it seems like its either sarcasm or a gross understatement <_<

I would put it the other way round.

The PS2 had an integrated PSX for all that I/O and sound stuff. The PS3 might do the same with the PS2...

On the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if they programmed a good Low Level Emulator for those consoles. If the processing power of the PS3 is really that high, I guess that it should be possible.

It IS a gross understatement. The PS2 has no hardware in common with the PS3.
One reason I'd get a PS3 instead of a PS2 is because there is logically no way that the PS3 could be emulated on a PC (at least, the traditional single core PCs). I mean, hey, 9 SPEs? And on a PowerPC architecture, no less. PearPC just started to show some progress, and here I am talking about PS3 emulation. It's just absurd.
Probably in the future when PC hardware goes more parallel (quad-core CPUs, etc) we might see PS3 emulation. Right now, my grasp of the situation tells me that this is incredibly far-fetched.
As for game consoles being hard to program for, I think they've reached the point that they're powerful enough to program for in C. That's how they do these PS2, XBOX and GC releases nowadays all at once. The PS3 has OpenGL and Cg behind it, so you can see at once that it's programmed for in higher level languages.
Apparently PSOne games were all programmed in assembly.....?

It's not like we have a fully functional PS2 emulator yet, but now we're talking PS3?
I can't seriously imagine a Playstation 3 emulator in the next 5 years because it's going to use so much power, I'd imagine it'd take a 20-30ghz system to emulate it.
A Dreamcast emulator requires at least a 1.7 ghz system *PC* and the Dreamcast was only a 200mhz system, a "Solid" Nintendo 64 emulator requires a 1 GHZ system and a Playstation emulator requires at least a 450mhz *I think 1 ghz is more realistic* to run as well...
What makes someone think a 2+GHZ system won't require a similiar boost?

actually itsa 3.2ghz system. Doesnt seem possible to emulate with current technology. We can always wait for the pentium 16 though ;)

Yeah I couldn't remember the number, my bad.
But it'll be a long time before we see 30+GHZ systems...
And I'd hate to imagine the Video card required to emulate a PS3...

nah go away from pentium! Go away from your "1" PC processor , 1 PC Mainboard, 1 PC GPU.
Infact parallel Systems are greatly coming up!
Looks at GPU at this time the best systems are actually working with parralel systems, TODAY!
I think it was the ASUS DEsign which put 2 GF 6800 Ultra on one Card and then put 2 of those Card in A SLI into a PC.

Imagine like this:
The PS3 contains 1 Cell Chip right?
What a bout a "PC" containing 4 Cell Chips?
Current Software could be easily emulated with that speed, and if you start to code just for this kind of plattform...
Think on a "PC" System were u can plug in as much Cell Chips as your "motherboard" supports...
IF the HW & SW Creators are not to stubborn theres a great Change coming.
x86 is about to die, only certain applications will be kept for emulating but looking at the HW it is in fact already dead.

so lets all just wait a few lets say (30 or so years) since Player-X isnt happy that I am saying 5 years after the PS3 release and we may ( I said "may") probably see a PS3 emulator

But go back a 1500 years and say that we can talk to a guy at the other end of the world, he wouldnt believe it n say that we can see people live on tv who are in a wholly different location, would he believe???!!???? NO!! right? but looook!! it is so!!!

Player-X : all i'm sayings that everythings going pretty fast, and new computers, new technologies would come up in time. (have you seen NVIDIA's newest graphics card the SL or something??). And do you know that NVIDIA is responsible for making the PS3 Graphics components? if so, they can, CAN, make a much, much more powerful graphics engine... Don't limit your thinking to such a narrow beam... but hey I don't mind... .... We shouldnt worry 2 much about Emulations much xcept PCSX2. The guys who really care about emulating would look at the problem when a PS3 comes out........................................................................................................right????

Sorry If i made you guys mad. I just said it MAY okay?

both consoles i think will be very good but

They also have said to enjoy the nice graphics of the ps3 you would need a hd tv capable of 1080p. Dont think that will be the case for the xbox 360. The design of both look nice but the controller for the ps3 looks horrible. I saw the ff tech demo and was amazed, but ive also seen a tech demo of the newest test drive for the xbox 360 at fileplanet.com

ff tech demo was the least impressive of all of them. See the Killzone2 movie or Motorstorm.

not too impressive IMO; but then again, I haven't played a decent Test Drive since TD3.
I've seen more impressive (racing) visuals on the xbox360 itself already, namely Project Gotham 3 and NFS Most Wanted.

BTW: In the Sony Press Conference they played the demos with PS2 controllers, so expect to use those instead of the "butt-ugly" PS3 ones.
I don't see why the controllers are such a big deal in the first place. Production time is a looooooooooooong way away, so the controllers are probably going to change. And if they don't, we can use third-party controllers or the ps2 controllers, given they work.

they do look pretty big tho. this'll be a good thing because i heard that it was too small for the average american caucasian man (ps1 and ps2, tho i think the ps2 one is slightly bigger).

I was thinking the other day that they should have different controllers as they do shoes, etc. After all, some of us hold the controllers longer than we wear shoes.

i just read that ps3 price point is $465 any truth to that? Who does sony think they are? 3DO? Thats just insane for a console price.
Why don't you buy a pc with the same power then? ;)

I hope the games are still in the $49.99 window, and not $59.99
I'd love to see console games have those prices here. New games here cost 60 bloody euros. Sometimes even more! That's about 70 USD I'm talking about.... :hdbash:
How can it be possible such differences exist for the same software, apart from one being pal and the other ntsc?
