Having read a recent article they also said backwards compatibility isn't high on their to do - list. I seriously hope Europe won't get assraped again.
Ohhh I'm sure they won't! I mean... they get free Casino Royale Blu-Ray discs, right? And you know what? THEY MAY EVEN GET RUMBLE-ENABLED SIXAXIS CONTROLLERS FOR FREE! D:

If you wonder why... read IGN's update

So... yeah. Rumble is coming back... looking all shiny and healthy and heroic while forcing us early PS3 owners to cough up the cash for them... o well... it's not the time for sulking about cash now, right? I mean... I'd just like to shout out... YAHOO! RUMBLE IS BACK! Good job, Sony! :thumb:

Well, unlike the Xbox the PS2 has actually MORE than just one thousand games in its library. Not counting the huge number of PSX games available.

By the way: Does anyone know whether or not those 1000 games are PS2 only? If they included PSX games, it would be actually a pretty bad deal.

Sony promises 1000 backwards compatible games for PS3 launch // GamesIndustry.biz

Sony's president of worldwide studios Phil Harrison has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will support over 1000 PS2 titles when it's launched on March 23.
With the PS2's emotion engine - the CPU - taken out of the PlayStation 3, Sony is relying on in-built emulation to play PlayStation 2 games on the console, and it's confident regular updates will mean a steady stream of classic titles for the machine.

"We're working to introduce a resource to the Web to detail which titles will have backwards compatibility. And as we make firmware upgrades, we will be able to add to that list," said Harrison.

You are aware of the fact that this page is just a rumour page, aren't you? This claim sort of lacks official confirmation.

Wow, you just based your information on the weblog of a person who made predictions on the year 2008. Sounds credible.

Anyway, time will tell, I sure as hell hope they'll bring back rumble. There's quite some games where I wouldn't want it missing. Race games for example where it gives some good feedback when hitting the curbs.

Well, Sony and Immersion did are indeed working together again, Sony already confirmed this. SixAxis 2 with rumble still needs confirmation though.

Btw, Portugal won't get Casino Royale :( We're getting Ultra Violet

Oh and F-3582, all PS1 games work apparently, the 1000+ are for PS2 only and they said they're aiming at the more popular ones.

Finally! Downloaded PS-One titles will play on the PS3... maybe - PS3 Fanboy

All right, PS3Fanboy is going to kick it into high gear today in an attempt to catch up on all this fantastic Sony/PS3 news that's been clogging the internet cleaning my dishes. Well, as expected, the next time we update our firmware, the change is going to be so significant that the very earth will change the tilt of its axis and Sony will dub it version 2.0! We're getting bits and pieces of what's going to change from different places, so we'll bring them all in one-by-one, then have a comprehensive look at what's to come.

What has been confirmed by PlayThree is this: downloaded PS-One titles that were originally for the PSP only are now going to be playable right off of the PlayStation 3! That's good news for those who wanted some of those games, but didn't have a PSP. PlayThree was not able to confirm the re-launch of the Sony Connect service that would allow for music, music videos, and certain video programs. More's coming. Check back next hour.

You still can :p

I just wet my pants
