Sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz and feature 2.18 teraflops of performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz, a detachable 2.5 inch HDD slot, six usb 2.0 ports, Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, a compact flash memory slot, Compact flash slot, 2 hdmi outputs, 1 av multi out, 1 SPDIF optical output, and 1-gigabit Ethernet built in port
nah, what about basic word processing and the like? I'm sure it will be utilized further at osme point to use more of the ps3's power...Yup, 512kbps for me too.
I never really saw it as a problem.
But a suggestion; NEVER go with Iprimus, DoDo FTW.
Also on the "install other OS" option; Dont expect to be running windows. Linux only runs on one SPE, and the PS3 has no where near the amount of power to run windows and games thru an emulator; that being said, I guess you could do something with linux. Its not really the best OS software-wise, but you could probably emulate SNES and Gameboy Advance, which, then again, can be run on a PC.
Linux is great, however, to anyone who's a programmer, like me. Linux = programmers playground.
Well compare millions to less than 80.000 users.... It say nothing when sony reach millions as well, compare again.Seems sony is focusing on good Quality online service. Hope it remains that way.
Positive PS3 news has been as rare as rocking-horse dung in recent months, so here's some smooth to go with the rough: it's emerged that Sony's forthcoming PlayStation 3 can connect with existing Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone headsets. The news that users will be able to configure current headsets with the console was revealed by Sony to CVG, and means that early adopters of the machine won't have to wait until the release (or endure the cost) of an official headset.
Naturally, an official headset will eventually be released, though Sony has yet to even hint at a possible release date for the device. Which barely matters of course, now that we know we'll be able to chat online from day one, and at no extra cost. Hurrah.
Sony sold 88,400 PlayStation 3 consoles over the weekend in Japan according to Japanese magazine company Enterbrain, which publishes Famitsu.
The number falls around halfway between the 100,000 launch-unit target Sony was aiming for and the 80,000 figure reported in the Nikkei Shimbun prior to launch.
The best selling games were Namco Bandai's Ridge Racer 7 and Gundam: Target in Sight, both of which sold around 30,000 units.
The near-instant total depletion of hardware stock has led to a huge number of Internet auctions for so-called "used" PS3 consoles spring up, some with asking prices more than twice that charged by retail.
It's a trend that's even being felt in Europe.
Some web-based importers have decided not to sell the console to clients in the European Union after Sony enjoyed success in its attempts to stifle Hong Kong-based Lik-Sang, which went out of business recently.
But one London-based importer is known to be offering the console, along with its five launch titles, for GBP 1500.
i find it ironic that you pointed out that i made a strange and almost pointless comment (whereas it is a valid and justified observation) and yet you went and made an even more useless and probably wrong comment by stating 1. speculation (inferiority of PS3 playback to future players) and 2. common sense (the decrease in price of blu-ray players in the future). that said, i guess we stll have to see if the price drop of ps3 don't keep up with price drop of bluray players ( a $50 PS3 price drop in half a year needs to be matched by at least a $550 price drop on average for blu-ray playersThat's a bit of a strange (and almost pointless) thing to say seeing as there are all of 3 blu-ray players currently available on the market and likewise - probably the same number or slightly more HD-DVD players.
Give it half a year from now and the PS3's Blu-Ray playback will already be inferior to dedicated players which will already be nearing prices of the PS3 or will be even cheaper by then.
... That is if Blu-Ray isn't already dying by then ...
