Finally, the goddamned game is out :D Got my copy a few hours ago and have been playin' it ever since. The game seems to be long this time, seeing that the first few hours were nothing but an introduction. The graphics and music are very good. My only complaint so far is that they made the ingame sound effects louder than the background music, and they didn't leave an option to adjust the volume of SFX and Background sounds in the options menu. There aren't any significant loading times. The only time I noticed a loading time was when the game switched from movie to ingame mode. Gameplay is simplified, however the ratio between story to gameplay is still high ( not that I am complaining ! :) )

Anyways, so far so good. I hope this makes up for EPII. Anyone else playing the game already? :)

Its funny how when the third one comes out, I have to buy it because I bought Ep1 and 2 already, but I have never played any of them:(

Liked Xenogears (wasn't hardcore fan of it but I played through it. The robos were []D [] []\/[] []D though :D ), really liked Xenosaga because it was fresh to me, really took me into the story and seemed like a movie. I think you could skip the cutscenes so that's a lifesaver in itself on replayability. I never felt all that strong though until I got that insane robot skill that does all 9999s. Xenosaga 2 I kinda liked I think, though I forget most of what I played, and I didn't beat it (oh, I'm a rental person btw). I would have eventually and probably enjoyed it. I don't think I would touch 3 until I beat 2 though.

Well, I've finished 14 hours in the game and it keeps getting better. The more I progress, the more tougher boss fights seem to be. Right now I am stuck at one
namely the second fight with the blue testament

edit : oh right. I forgot to mention this, but I really enjoyed the Xenogears homages they left in the game. Aside from Jin himself, I won't mention them here, but all I can say that there is a character and an andriod modelled after an infamous Xenogears character/gear pair :p

I don't have a capture card, but you can view this video ( at your own discretion of course :p ) if you wanna know what I am talking about.

I wouldn't play them for the sole reason of having liked Xenogears. There's really not enough to connect the two happily.
i agree.

I been thinking about getting into the Xenosaga games for sometime. Xenogears has to be one of my top rpg games of all time. Just waited patiently for them to conclude the Xenosaga series then pick them all up. Have they concluded the story of this game or do you think if it does well they will continue?

Alright, finished the game a few mins ago. A few quick impressions : The story was very good, the game was enjoyable and little bit longer than EPII, however it's still a bit short IMO. The game gets -really- good at the last part of the second disc, but that left me hungry for more. I wish they would continue the Xeno- titles now that shion's arc is over.

I am planning to go to EB next weekend to buy Xenosaga 3. I could probably rent xenosaga Anime DVD and spend a few concentrated hours on that for the stories of Xenosaga 1 ( I am stuck somewhere before and my ps2 memcard is corrupted due to AR2 maxevo). But my university life will continue within a week, how am I suppose to beat Xenosaga 2 and go on to 3. Summer holidays is too short!!!!! (even though university has 4 months of summer holiday, its still too short!)

Planning to buy it next week. Does it connect to the Xenogears story?

It's up to speculation, You'll have to play the game and see for yourself. :p I was reading the timeline in Xenogears Perfect Works and the story more or less matched the one portrayed in Xenosaga. I would like to get into more details, but no one has finished the game yet...

edit : scratch that. Here's a part of an old interview with Xenosaga director, Tetsuya Takahashi :

GS: Is Xenosaga a direct sequel or prequel to Square's Xenogears?

YM: Though the development team is the same, they were previously working under Square for Xenogears, and now they have shifted to Monolith Software for Xenosaga. But with our relation between Square, I think it is difficult for us to say it is a direct sequel or prequel. It's probably more suitable to say that it follows the direction and style of Xenogears.

GS: Watching the trailer, we can't help notice that there are some familiar faces from Xenogears. Are these characters somehow related in Xenosaga?

TT: Now that we are under a different company, we figured we should start everything from scratch all over again. Though there are familiar faces that serve as important characters in Xenosaga, others are more like self-parodies, so we don't really want Xenogears fans to overreact. Like movies, sometimes you have the director of the movie or friend of the leading actor appearing as cameos, so it's similar to that.

GS: We've heard that you already have the majority of the plot in mind. So, for instance, Square's Xenogears is technically the fifth episode in the story. Where do you intend to go from here?

YM: This is something which won't happen for a few years--we haven't even decided if we're going to do it in order. (laughs)

TT: Well, we have to make sure the first game sells. (laughs) But yes, when that time comes, we'd like to make sure it will be something worthy of presenting to the players.

I hope they make more episodes and use the battle system from episode 3, I think it is the best of the three in terms of gameplay and better then most RPGs I've played in that aspect. I just beat the game and it certainly leaves alot of room for a sequel, in fact it almost demands one(I'll leave it at that). Also, it seems longer than the first two when I rushed through episode 1 it took me about 25-30 hours and episode 2 took me 24 hours. On my episode 3 clear data, which I heavily rushed through(I barely made it), I have 51 hours and I don't have the skill line completed for any of my characters nor have I completed any of the side quests or beat any of the optional bosses. I figure it probably takes 100+ hours to beat the game the "right" way with all the side quests completed and all your characters decently maxed out.

I really don't understand why this game did so poorly in Japan(It got less than half the sales of episode 2 in the first week, which in turn got only half the sales of episode 1 total), It seems like this game is has everything that the first two were lacking(good game play and longevity).
