I personally didn't notice any visible performance difference in games when I switched to Vista Ultimate x64 from XP SP2 32bit

I really hope the new version will bring full support for 4 cores and 64bit magic (qx6700 4x3,5GHz) that should boost the speed of emulation just right
Strange, for me I experience from 10-30 fps differences in Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII and of course Tekken 4 ;) and this is from Vista Ultimate x64 to Window XP x64.

I always wonder when people say there is no performance impact if they actually make some proper testing or only think there's no difference. When I test a new OS, what I do is to take a few screenshots from saves in both PCSX2 and PC games from exact same spot in both OS and maybe a few benchmarks so I can actually say how many FPS or % it runs slower/faster. :p I think only trying it out without actually doing any comparision is kinda obsolete way to say if it's faster or slower as you might not notice it with your eyes only.

Want proof? Here's an example or think of it this way, let take a modern/recent pc game and try it on windows vista and xp and see if you can gain the same fps in the same place/exact location ;). In other word, my statement above is non-fiction, even without providing any picture. By the way, i don't have any reason to lie or give false infos

This is true, but I wasnt talkin to u :) u had reasonable proof of facts. Vista just uses up more memory so the frame rates are slightly lower if your memory isnt fast enough... speaking of which, who wants to help me overclock my memory, its the only thing i cant figure out, and my BIOS comes with uguru so i can do it very easily. I just need to know proper timings... whcih I dont...

Fact is, Vista needs more ressources just to run than XP. Ergo less ressources are open to any given application than in XP.
Also a fact, pcsx2 doesn't benefit from any of the so-called "improvements" in Vista.
The question isn't IF it runs slower in Vista, but by HOW MUCH. For some its barely noticable, for some it's alot. Just depends on hardware, drivers and system configuration.
I myself will be staying away from that hellhole as long as possible. Or until they actually bring out more than 1 decent DX10 game.

Well I have Lost Planet, which for what Ive played through is amazing graphically. Gameplay is alright, basic 3rd person shooter. So far the basic story reminds me of Gears of War a bit, but it runs amazingly well for the graphics level, at least it does without the new "high" shadow setting which causes a 75 fps to >15 fps drop lol

Works fine for me on my 4 year old dell built for XP POS laptop, but the new PC is freaking out on me. Vista drivers for the 8800 series... how to put this nicely and unoffensivly... SUCK CHUNKS. And the x64 ones are a bajillion times worse, so Im not going to DARE go near it untill the drivers are fixed, which by that time Windows Fiji will be out and Ill have to start all of this over.

And for you smartasses who think Im talking about Vienna and are willing to correct me, look up Fiji its exciting stuff if you are using Vista right now :)

8800 drivers are quite a piece ... you ever played Alien VS Predator 2? I reinstalled it few days ago outa boredom. And as if the game isn't scary enough, now you gotta deal with spiky polygons shooting into the screen every so often too. *shudders*

Overall i'm quite happy with xp64 drivers though. Must be another Vista quirk. :S

U using x64 VISTA DRIVERS!?!?!? Man you walk on the wild side, I wouldnt dare... I dont get spikes or artifacts... I just crash.... Like evrery time I exit Halo 2, I crash from a dirextx file... and yes I have the newest everything installed. It just sucks. Even with the new July 26 release, everything is soooo buggy its amazing.

Uhm, you missread (or sumthin). I am NOT using VISTA drivers. I am using XP x64 drivers. You made it sound like VISTA x64 drivers are a mess and i just wanted to note that x64 drivers for XP64 are quite ok.

Never had problems with the 64bit nvidia drivers for vista business. Must be your pc or the one sitting in front of it. Get the latest I think 163.11 versiond and it should work fine. Works for me and many others.
Well posts like that almost makes me install Vista x64 only to prove the difference. I could easily do it but how about your proofs that it runs just as good as Win XP SP2 32bit in your case for example?

Really I don't believe people saying that before they actually show some comparisions. I know it works better on some hardware configs than others but it runs way slower at least on my system but yea Vista really wants like 2GB RAM minimum too (with 4GB not hurting if you wanna play upcoming titles at nice gfx quality settings). I'll get my upgrade C2D upgrade soon with fast 2GB kit and will do a new comparision then and see if performance is any better. It's just not possible to get the slowdown small for every system unfortunately even if the comp is a decent one. I don't know about you but I find 5 - 15 FPS slower FPS rate in PCSX2 to be quite significant difference. In PC games the difference is a bit smaller but for me even 3 FPS would matter a bit.

Oh yea since PCSX2 hardly is that GPU dependant and 1GB RAM will be more than sufficient in PCSX2 even for Vista, I wonder where those lost 5 - 15 FPS goes.

I was running Vista x64 while I was using my x1900 gt... I mean its not that theres NO difference... its just not... noticable... I didnt really get to compare frame rates for gaming but in all together performance Vista x64 really has a long way to go before its worth the risk of the required driver signing.

RPGW1ZaRD: Bakryuuh was saying that there were significant stability problems, even with the latest driver. I just wanted to say that this is not true and would be due to a wrong configuration or whatever.
But I will do some comparisons tomorrow with XP SP2 32bit and see about how much difference there is.

I'm using vista x64 drivers and can't really complain about it - when I was talking about my experience with not seeing much performance differences in games after switching to vista I wasn't talking about pcsx2 but about normal PC games - I've been using the emu for just about a week or so now - so I don't have a comparison about the performance in emu. PCSX2 is the only thing that can give my PC a hard time. I'm not saying there are no performance differences - I'm just saying that with a rig like that You can't really notice them (PC games).
