I don't want metro, in fact burn it with fire, i just don't want the start button either, then again if there are no hotspots i'll just use a startkiller app.

Only have one partition on my laptop and don't want to back up.

Using stock old icons and new icons. They don't mix well.

I love to try new things but I'll wait because yeah this is my work laptop, although my docs are in the cloud, I can't risk it.

There's a couple new, unused icons snuck into the preview. IMO, they will most likely be switched in for a last minute interface refresh like the shi tzu they pulled with Metro (leaking only screenshots of the desktop then shocking the world with fullscreen tiles).

 

well, there's still some "design conflicts", metro apps don't look like normal windows/desktop apps obviously and indeed there's no consistency in icon usage.

Still, the old and the new are much better integrated with each other now.

 

This is good shit.... Microsoft is finally back on track with Windows 10.

 

As a software dev, I'm excited for Win10. Hopefully we can get everyone on xp/7 on board to upgrade for free. No more designing websites for IE8 or using <.net 4.0.

 

Yeah, i remember writing tone of extra code in intranet applications just to keep compatibilty.... that was a real mess. However, companies don't like to upgrade that fast because of money and also compatibility with certain apps or hardware.

The "Xbox on Windows 10" thingy is misleading its basically streaming, i guess its cool for someone who actually has an Xbox one but for those of us who don't have it its nothing to be excited about....

That feature is exclusively designed for Xbox One owners and not for the general users. It wouldn't make much sense if that weren't the case unless MS wants to kill there own product. However, the XB1 as it seems is going to turn into a sort of "steam machine" instead of a console since is going to have Windows 10 installed as well. That's the reason they said that windows store apps and games from the store are going to run on it and even office(he stated that office on the XB1 makes little sense tho.). The idea however is to connect all devices from there eco-system while having the exact same OS which is great.

That feature is making a big buzz in the internet right now and lots of PS4 users are pissed since the PS4 has remote play which is a great feature. The difference here however is that most people actually own a PC or windows device rather than a Vita or specific Xperia devices which makes it a killer feature. Also from tests it seems like that feature is going to work a lot better as well but only time will tell.

Now the part missed in there event is the fact that after the XB1 has Windows 10 installed and supporting DX12 it could *theoretically" run PC games as there is nothing stopping it except for high specs requirement on newest games. The DX12 example shows a lot since games running DX11 will hit there limit easily after adding more complex stuff and with it requiring higher specs. With DX12 that doesn't seem to be the case as it effectively use CPU and GPU allowing far more on the exact same specs but that's something to be seen.

It's targetted at Steamboxes. The Windows-based ecosystem will be far richer if SteamOS keeps depending on streaming from a Windows machine.

Streaming TO Xbone would be actually troublesome, as PCs lack native realtime recording (not just permanent like Shadowplay/NVenc, even time-limited to when the Xbox app requests PC streams). The most convenient options to leverage for that may be Steam's streaming system, followed by Nvidia and ATI's, but I dont see it happening anytime soon.

Going the other way around is troublefree thanks to the uniformity of Xbone SKUs, all compatibility variations are handled by the Xbox app.

 

I'm almost sure that recording this time is implemented in Windows itself or DirectX 12. Unlike in the past that was never a feature of windows but now it seems to be integrated in the system which could work better than third party ones including steam.

It has zero useful purposes in games, except very niche ones o the kind of Ingress. MS set a very dangerous precedent with Kinext-only Xbox One, and this proves they did not give up the concept, and it may be forcefully bound to future releases of Windows ('always-listening' Cortana is already, now we're looking at 'always-streaming').

I'm surprised noone saw it as it was: a commercial implementation meant to make the idea of centralized computer systems being made and allowed to scan reallife to finetune their object/people detection routines (basically crowdsourced datamining dependant on adoption, even minimal - like by just employees and state agents, albeit the model should already be developped enough by the time they use it, otherwise it'd only be scanning, and with the using existing dataset)

 

@ruantec look up OpenGL Next. Its going to be similar to DX12 and AMDs Mantle.

 

Yeah, but as far as i know it's going to break compatibilty with current OpenGL implementation. Also what's the current status of the development??? i haven't followed that much. Hope it could benefit Sony then after they start to implement it. Its going to be interesting to see how it performs against directX 12 or mantle. I didn't meant games fully using it but probably adding optional support for those who end purchasing it. Something like extra stuff where you can read walkthroughts, tip and tricks or just change settings etc. while having a huge hologram screen to play the streamed games. Something like that would be awesome just as much as it would be having a hologram of Orchid sitting beside me in my living room while playing KI lol!

The minecraft demo shown on the promo video could be a small example.

Microsoft can't stop you, I rolled win7 preview onto final by a few tweaks to bypass their locks.

 

The preview upgrade system rolls a full image and refreshes, so there should be no need to format, other than starting from a clean slate with the latest defaults.
