Hello, I'm pretty much a n00b to the PS2 emulation scene and I have some questions:

Will upgrading from my:
P4 2.26 Ghz
GeForce 6600
1024 MB RAM
:)cry:)

to a:
Pentium D 915 3.0 Ghz
GeForce 8600
1536 MB RAM
:)emb:)

make most PS2 games (specifically the RE games) on a playable frame rate?

Playing Code Veronica though pcsx2 as I type this.

Nope your pc wont run it smoothly, is the answer to your question. And neither will the one you wanted to change to.

If you plan on upgrading then upgrade to dual core at the very least. Though quad core is the standard now in most new pcs, but not in laptops yet. You`d be wanting 2gb ram too.

It is dual core:

The Pentium D brand refers to two series of dual-core 64-bit x86 processors with the NetBurst microarchitecture. Each CPU comprised two single-core dies (CPUs) - next to each other - in one Multi-Chip Module package. The brand's first processor, codenamed Smithfield, was released by Intel on May 25, 2005. - wikipedia.org

Pentium D is kinda dual core, I think it's 2x Pentium 4's in 1 core. But Pentium D sucks compared to Core2Duo / Core2Quad.

Everthing with pentium is too weak xD

what's the point of upgrading a very old comp, to an old comp? It'll be a buit faster, but not fast enough :(

Save money and buy a new comp :D

Meaning the Intel 4004 is more powerful than a PentiumPro?

no what he means is you are going from a crap processor to a processor which is the same crap one but twice as much of it

I have now a E6850 and after buying this beast, I have a Pentium D 820 2.8ghz.

Pentium D only brings me 14/16fps in games that now, I can play at 50fps with limited(PAL) and a 180fps without limiter.

This is in stock mode!!!!!!!! If you OC a little, you gain 4 or 5 fps.
The graphics card are the same and the memory too. But my old are 533mhz and the new 667mhz.

Really pentium D is cheaper, but isn't a good idea.
Try to buy Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz or more. Prices are between €110~$200

I have the same question, but I don't want to start another topic about it.

My current PC:

P4 2.66ghz
1GB ram
Geforce FX 5700LE 256MB

My next PC:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz
2GB Ram
Geforce 8800GTS 640MB

Will these specs play PS2 games smoothly?

I don't see why ot and even though quad core doesn't give you anything extra ove dual core you are not just buying a PC for pcsx2 right?? I mean a quad core is a better investment in the long run. Also you should try to get at least 3 GB ram. I recently saw a Quad core 4 gb ram, 2.4 ghz at 1100 US. dollars. I paid that much for my PC just six months ago!!! And it not even half as good. Graphics card is just fine.

@LOLZ Pentium D is a bad choice when it comes to upgrading, even if you do upgrade to that, you will have the same thing you had before + it will be a whole lot hotter, I used to have 1 and my pc kept shutting off for using pcsx2, it was actually a joke, I had to add more thermal paste to at least reduce the temps a bit for it to stay on.

Save some more money and get at least a Core 2 Duo, All core 2 Duos are easily overclockable and run very cool. My E6600 runs at 3.1GHz currently at 25C idle and 36C on load. I lower my clock as you can see my sig says 3.31GHZ, because summer is on the way, and it's already getting hot in here.

You may need to overclock it a little, but many games will run just fine. 2GB of RAM is ok, no need to get more, I don't see much point in it, seems only programmers and people that use many programs at the same time use more than 2GB of RAM. Although you could do that now and not worry about more memory in the future.

No friend. Like I said, PM me in TAGALOG! Tokwa naman oh.... >.<

I have an Athlon64 X2 5600 overclocked to 3Ghz (This means it's like an X2 6000) and most 3D games will still NOT go on full speed.)

You need a Core2Duo processor running at least 3Ghz to get full speed on most 3D games.

Yeah, using your PS2 is much better. It's because it will be such a waste changing nearly all the computer computers just for PCSX2. If it satisfies your PC gaming, go for it. And then go to your PS2 for your PS2 gaming.

... And I don't watch TV. I only play computer games..... :D ;)

Thats going to vary depending on the game you test it on. My specs are a few notches above yours and even I dont get 50 fps on everything. Really depends on what game specifically. On FFX or Kingdom Hearts you got a very good chance of it.

The games I tried were Bully and Killzone. Killzone is completely unplayable, and Bully ran at about 15fps ingame. I doubt it was the fact I was running it off the DVD and not ISO. I can't find a program that rips PS2 DVDS correctly to just plain ISO.
