Is it possible to keep the VBA from eating up most of my processing power(or mabey CPU power)????:(
Im having this problem with all my VBA emulators (including Spacy's).

SPECS
*****
-448 Mg of RAM
-RADEON IGP 345 Mg graphics card
-Intel Pentium 4 Processor
-2.79 GHz

Uh oh...not again...
Its lagging, but this time, VBA is only showing 50-64 % on the top of the window. This is getting really annoying...Spacy, help!:(

Ok...I think I know now. I've been using the VBA version 1.8.
When I tried using the version 1.7, everything seemed to work out fine.
Thanks for you help Spacy.

It seems tha VBA gets slower with each version.

To Spacy: I tried profiling the newest build and the results are quite interesting - I'll e-mail them to you if you want

That would be nice.

I used AMD's profile a while ago, but the results showed that VBA spends most of the time in the emulation loop, if I remember correctly.

Nevertheless, send me the report and tell me what you find interesting, now I am curious ;D

Oh and i forgot to mention, most of the time forcing the frameskip higher will obtain the throttle i ask for, while using auto-detect it will barely get the throttle i wish for at any times at all.

In my experience all the compatability issues have been slaughtered, so maby it should be bent more on speed now?

I'll try comparing emulator versions...

holy *****, the speed differances are huge!!
I tried 1.6 and compared it with 1.8

1.6:
No frameskip:
Steady 500%-550% with the speed button and frameskip at 0
With just throttle and not speed i obtain various 300-400%

Frameskip
I can finish battles within a minute :p
I get steady 1000% with the max throttle (coincidentally 1000%)
With speed button... i was to afraid to try... :p

1.8
No frameskip
Extremely unstable 150-300% with speed button
less, but still, unstable 80-250% with throttle..

Frameskip

Speed button gives 250-350% with insane video lagg
Throttle gives 150-280% - only survivable mode to play ffta with v 1.8.0 when i want extra speed.

Tested on my machine:
geforce 7 7800gtx
pentium 4 extreme edition 3ghz
1gb RAM
windows XP sp2

i think they should make 2 versions, one without the tools (oam view, map view etc... just for ppl who only play and not debug things etc...)except for the memory viewer and disassembler (for cheats :p ) and one with all those tools, maybe this increase the speed?

#15 ·
Nope those tools are on 1.6 too. So i doubt it
i know, but taking off those "useless" (not for some ppl) may decrease the cpu load, well i don't know, i just play games to hack codes XD the games here most of the time are 100%, some games like F-ZERO at frame skip 0 goes about 80~95%, the final fantasy 4 advance intro (when starting a new game) 86~100%

You know, with the speed difference with the two VBA versions, do you think Project64 has this same problem? I dont htink I should test this becasue my comp is crappy...
