Hi! A small question: What is the best format for images of PS2 disks? I make an ISO's using latest alcohol. But maybe nrg\mdf\bin or anything else is better in some aspects? Decided to ask it jast to make sure :)

the ISO format is probably the most popular, and might be easier to read (just a guess.. :p)
if an image is compressed, its definitely going to take longer to read; not sure if nrg, mdf, or bin formats use any types of compression.

you can also load ziped .7z files i think it just read a bit slower not really tested it, the .7z file must be a compressed iso ofcorse, but anything that ends in .iso .bin .elf .cue .daa should all work fine at round about the same speeds, im not usre if the pluging are suited to a one format or not, just use .iso you may get a 1-2 second speed increase on loading times FPS will always be the same

With iso, nrg, mdf i can play the game with daemon tools but daa can not read with it. Since daa is powerISO (i guess). Is someone can play it with daemon tools?. daa file is much compressed and can read with powerISO but can not read with pcsx2 and daemon tools.
Try using UltraISO. It can create compressed ISO files - ISZ. You can set compression level in options. Then you can use Daemon Tools to mount it :)

ANd what about subchannel data? It's only used for protection? Or some games use it to store some additional data needed for them? If so, ISO don't support subchanels AFAIR.

BTW what about software for images creating? FOr example UltraISO can create images of almost all formats, but I noticed that it often skips errors even when this option is disabled. So I use Alcogol 120%. It's last version has a new option - Enhanced Weak Sector Scanner. It helped me for dumping one damaged disk :) .

try to use ImgBurn (creates an standard ISO image), It's free and It works very well (on PSCX2 it gave me zero probs), It's the program I use to make backups of all of my discs.

Yeah. CloneCD works good for me too. Works with every game.

When I tried compressing some of my games, there was not much of a difference in size (less than 10%). I think some games are already compressed and there may be large video and audio files stored in some images.

There won't be much of a speed increase, whether you use a real disc or an image. If I wanted to play PS2 games stored on my hard disk, I'd rather use HDLoader on a real PS2.

From the CDVDbin v0.67 readme:
-Officialy known types: (bytes/sec)
bin(+cue), //2352 + toc info file
iso, //2048 (it is not recommended to use such)
img(+ccd+sub), //2352 + toc info file + subchannel file
bwi, //2353 (i don't know much about this type)
mdf(+mds), //2352/2448 + toc info file (2448-2352=96 => full subchannel)
nrg //2048/2352/2448 as mdf type, the subq info is in the file,
at the end of the image there are toc infos

So ISO is not recommended? ;)

Can we really use 7z zipped ISO ?
What plugin to use with that 7z ISO files?
you wouldn't want to use a 7z ISO file since that means its compressed and the plugin has to spend time and CPU power uncompressing them.

since PCSX2 is already heavily CPU limited, that would just kill FPS.
