Hi there

So ive been trying out this emu, but i seem to get alot of slowdown in most games ive tryed, Zelda ,FF3,Castlevania...

Pentium 4 630 LGA 775 w/HT @ 3.00 GHZ stock, 2mb L2 cache, 2Gb DDR 400, G-Force 6800gt 256mb

Ive owned an athlon 3800x2 @2.20 GHZ and The P4 HT seems alot faster even compared to the 3800x2 using multi threaded programs like company of heros, this P4 peformed better in COH! and alot better in all single threaded games

What gives? do i need to go get some core2 cpu just so i play some DS

With that system, you should get, in zelda, around 90%-100% with frameskipping (40%-50% without (option : 100% unlimited Mhz) - all this in the very first screen near the water); castlevania should run at 100% with frameskipping and 50%-70% without.
If you get much less, there must be some problem.
Otherwise, nothing you can do except wait and see if future versions improve speed or buy a new computer.

Thx for info m8

Yer ive already got it running alot better with that option : 100% unlimited Mhz

Durp for some reason i thought the "Emulation speed,LCD refresh" menu was to do with sound, i never really botherd looking at the title i just saw "realtime auto" thinking it was realtime audio....

Anyways cheers

did you use windows XP on your athlon ?
did you update your windows ? installing the hotfix for multicore ???
most people using multicore esp the newer one with power step up sometimes forgot to install the hotfix for multicore. if you not, then you'll crtainly experience decreased performance.
i forgot to install the hotfix for my core 2 duo once :D and man, it's a mess... can't even get 80% on pokemon diamond, while previously i can even speed up everything above 100%.
note : i'm currently using core 2 duo T5500 1.67Ghz on a laptop :D

go here : Computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features may experience decreased performance
just in case :D

quote :
SYMPTOMS
Computers that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features, such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor performance states, require Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Additional updates are available to optimize performance and behavior on computers that are running Windows XP SP2. Without these updates, computers that are equipped with these power management-capable, mobile, dual-core processors may experience decreased performance or unexpected behavior.

Windows XP SP2 is required on computers that have multiple CPUs that support ACPI processor performance states. This requirement includes computers that support the following items:
• Multiple physical sockets
• Multiple-core designs
• Multiple logical threads, such as Intel hyper-threading technology

Because Windows XP was not originally designed to support performance states on multiprocessor configurations, changes are required to correctly realize this support on multiprocessor systems. Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes the required changes to the kernel power manager. These changes make sure that Windows XP correctly functions on multiprocessor systems with processor performance states.

This hotfix also addresses the following issues on computers that have multiple processors that support processor performance states:
• A possible decrease in performance on single-threaded workloads when processor performance states are using demand-based switching.
• The synchronization of the processor Time Stamp Counter (TSC) registers across processors when you use the ACPI Power Management timer on multiprocessor systems.
• ACPI C-state promotion and demotion issues in the kernel power manager.

^yep i was using XP with all updates

And i had updated cpu drivers, and installed amd duelcore optimiser

I sold my Athlon64 3800x2 now, i was not happy with its peformance at all

But i recently reinstalled windows on my P4 and im still on SP1... gotta wait till my Net cap is removed...

But ill make sure i get the hotfix , because it has hyper threading{virtual duelcore} and see if it makes a diff

Also im using socket lga 775, will a core2 duo work in this mobo?

I found out what the problem was

It was thermal throttling! i had recently put some new thermal grease on my cpu, but i hadnt clamped the heatsink in properlly, even tho it seemed to be in nice and tight...

It would go over 70*c and my whole pc would slowdown:mad:
I fixed it now and No$gba runs great im playin ff3 with pretty much full speed
:thumb:

Also getting a c2d is not pointless as its a great cpu , not just for playing emus..

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

this is hilarious.

a Pentium 4 with hyperthreading, better then a X2 3800.

what the hell are you smoking there buddy?
