The BSOD's in Windows NT are very informative. The ones in 9x are terrible. They tell you absolutely nothing useful.

My problem seems to be solved. The cause was my CD-Writer. Now, it works flawlessly :dance: .

there is one other problem with xp which i feel annoying.that one is about kazaa.at my place sometime electricity goes off or due to some other reasons have to turn off power supply.when this happens windows are not shut down properly hence the files i had been downloading for days using kazaa disappear.is there any option which could help this problem.

I don't think that has anything to do with Windows XP. It is probably due to Kazaa.

but this does not happen with win98.

So what you're saying is that the power to your home goes out. Therefore your computer turns off. When you reboot the files you downloaded are gone. Perhaps it is a feature of Kazaa that deletes incomplete files?

But it doesn't happen with win98? Odd... It ALWAYS happens to me, should the power go out.

yeah that might be the problem.i think kazaa itself deletes incomplete files.but yes it does not happen in win98 se,i think winxp backsup files when it stars again.

yes, winxp will count the unfinished files as bad (or incomplete) data blocks and attempts to recover the files as such.
