I feel so stupid asking this question, but is there a way to force desktop changing in Pete's OGL2 to turn on? I can't set my in-game resolution any higher than my desktop resolution because it makes the gamer bigger than my screen, if that makes sense.

I'm sure it's something really obvious that I'm missing, but I know that the specific option for turning desktop changing on and off has been removed. Is there any way to force it with command lines or anything like that?

maybe your desktop resolution is set at its max and you can't go above that resolution on the plugin?

e.g your max is 1280x1024
so you can't go above that in the plugin config.
I suppose that's very possible, my monitor is pretty old. I'm running on a Radeon 9800, though, which, while being far from top of the line, has allowed me to play games at resolutions up to and including 1600x1200. Would this be an issue with this specific plugin, then?

What is your monitors max resolution? Have you changed anything recently?

It turns out my monitor's max resolution is only 1280x9600. I think xxxHolic hit the nail on the head, because if I run Pete's OGL2 in 1280x9600, it switches my resolution from 1152x864 when I run a game just fine.

I haven't changed anything recently, but it is kind of odd because I know I've played PC games in resolutions higher than 1280x960.

What is the model number of your monitor? Put that in to Google and look at the specs, that will tell you exactly what your limits are.

If youve played games at higher they could be scaling automatically or auto-changing your resolution. If you have a crt then you may be able to get higher resolution with lower refresh rates.

Yeah, it's looking like 1280x960 is the best I'm going to be able to do. Thanks a lot for your patience with my dumb question and for all the quick replies. :)

As an aside, since this is the reason I was trying to up my resolution, is there a way to get the polygons in OGL2 to look as good as OGL1? I can't run in OGL1 because of slowdown issues (Final Fantasy games, mostly), but the polygons in OGL1 look so much smoother, though the backgrounds look a lot better in OGL2. I haven't had much luck with filtering or shaders because they all just look blurry to me. I'm probably doing something wrong.

Depending on your system you need to set the "internal x/y" resolution to high or very high (or maybe ultra high ;) ).
I personally don't use any texture filtering or high res textures but i do use the screen filtering option and i use the Natural/Light Shader from SimoneT.

OGL should run a lot faster than OGL2. What settings are you using? And did you happen to read the sticky at the top of the forum you posted in that has configs for many popular games?
Yeah, I actually posted about this a really long time ago and you and I didn't really come to any final conclusions. If I use your OGL2 config the game runs fine (as long as I don't use epsxe 1.60) but it looks a little worse. With Kane's OGL1 config the game looks great, but I get MASSIVE pre- and post-battle slowdown (in Final Fantasy VII), and I don't think we ever really found a way around that.

Edit: As far as things we tried back in the last thread I posted about this, I have started using SSSPSX which fixes the slowdown in OGL2. In Kane's OGL1 config, if I use compat. options 4/2/3, I get bad slowdown during the battle swirl and Tifa's slot is broken. If I use compat. options 4/0/4, it breaks the battle swirl but fixes the slowdown, but Tifa's slot is still broken.

I don't know if I can fully agree with that...most of the time you just click the "Nice" preset and get going. OGL just has some problems with framebuffer effects, and may take some tweaking to work.
