Hi everyone,

I am a post-graduate at the University of Sheffield in the UK and am conducting research on localization/Translation of video games; particularly surrounding the technical, linguistic and cultural issues that are raised among fans.

As many people involved the type of work done are all around the world, I have created an online questionnaire to collect as many people's experiences and opinions as possible over the next 6-8 weeks (as I have to begin writing up the results in August!).
Participants do not have to be active or highly-experienced in this area, all opinions are welcome!

The questionnaire can be found at
https://docs.google.com/a/sheffield...sheffield.ac.uk/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDRIbGx2aE9hZnhQM2FfcXF4VzcwdlE6MQ

If you have a little free time and fill out the questionnaire, it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could pass this on to others who may be interested too (they do not need to be users of this forum either).
The questionnaire is anonymous, and every step has been taken to ensure answers are kept confidential (more details are given at the start of the questionnaire).

If anyone would like to comment or ask questions on this research, please feel free to get in touch.

Many thanks! :thumb:

Q 13.1 has a typo (not sure exactly what you were trying to say so I'll let you find it yourself)

Done.

What's confusing about question 13.1 ? (even with the typo) "Please could you list any gaming websites or forums you regularly use" its pretty self explanatory, just list gaming related websites you use and in the second box reasons why you used them (for message boards, news etc.) :p.

Done on my end as well.

I actually guessed it might be "all" lol

Well yeah I got what he was asking, I just didn't get how he wanted to ask it. In other words I couldn't say he misspelled 'any' since I didn't realize that's what he wanted to write (usually when you tell someone they made a typo you tell them the word they meant to spell, like you often misspell trust as thrust in your case). Though in retrospect it should have been obvious XD.

A lot of games I'd like to play legally that are imports are expensive and I lack the dumping technology to legally dump them myself. I'd love to play the sequel to Secret of Mana "legally" but I haven't the technology to dump SNES carts nor want to pay for a used SNES cart that I'd have to import from Japan.

The only import I got from Japan is my Raidex DX Playstation game that I play in EpsxE. I have a Japanese FZERO, a European Shemnue II, and I might have something else but I can't think of it at the moment.

The FZERO and Shenmue II have English and the Raiden DX is a shooter with english score.

Technically I think Guilty Gear ## Reloaded wasn't sold in the US until GOG got it and that game is English as well.

There are probably a lot of SNES, PSX, and Saturn games I'd love to import, but it isn't happening.

Done the survey, but I think I mixed up my E-Mail address. I regularly use two, one for home and one for work, and I think I got the name of one and the domain of the other. Silly me. -.-

I was expecting the "If you have something else to add, do it here:" box by the end. Because while I consider sharing copyrighted material (translated or not) piracy, making translations certainly ain't. =S
