Some of the missions in Borderlands 2 are really annoying or just plain boring, or both...especially playing solo. It really helps if you play with a friend. Plus, Ultimate Vault Hunter difficulty is hellish even with friends, the enemies have four or five times more health and they regenerate. I'd also recommend the DLC's, Tiny Tinas Assault on Dragon Keep and Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage, both are hilarious. The other two are kinda meh but I'd still say grab 'em.

Borderlands and Borderlands 2 are in effect pretty shitty games. 2 is rife with internet humour and some boring ass missions.

Same enemies over and over again, for me it's a podcast game, if I want to listen to something, I'll either do housework or play this.

So I guess that makes ARPG genre(diablo, titan quest, etc.) as a whole, a shitty genre? Because Borderlands is an ARPG just in FPS form. You beat ton of similar enemies and collect loot, after finishing the game you do it again in a higher difficulty to get even better loot. Not everyone likes it, I get it but it doesn't make it shitty.

Dead Rising 3

Kinda mixed reactions with this one. On one hand there are a tonne of weapon combos to find, plenty of undead to slay, some really great costumes and Nick is great as he's such a goober.

The biggest problem is the rest of the game is really pointless. Dead Rising was fantastic as it delivered a story, mixed in some great survival aspects, paced everything really well albeit for the escort missions being kinda jank. The best thing is that you did your best to survive the 3 days as the odds kept getting worse and worse in your favour.

DR3 however is a rather dumb in that its more goofy weapon combos, a piss weak story that isn't going anywhere and has no real point or gravitas at all. The comedy is poor, the map layout kinda stinks, and progression feels forced and dumb. Too many menus, too much thrown at you at once, too easy to boot.

Fun in that there aren't many beat em up games of this elk, dumb in every other way.

The Evil Within

It plays like a very oppressive survival horror game, kinda early Splinter Cell style game play, and has some similar approach as The Last of Us. Except, it does not hold your hand in any way and from the early part I played, you have very little to work with. So far I'm not having a lot of fun, but I respect the game for forcing you to actually think, not just follow along.

Shooting is bloody awful! And the default running animation is horrendous, motherf***er looks like he's jogging through a bouncy castle. On PS4 it's blurry as all hell and its kinda difficult to make stuff out.

The other irritating thing is the blasted aspect ratio. At first I gave it the benefit of the doubt, but combined with the brutal FOV it began to annoy me a great deal. I've lost count of how much time I'm spending moving the viewstick up and down just to see what the hell is going on. Can't say I've had to do that for any other game.

It's a lot of work, less time actually playing. I'll push through, but I'm not overly excited to.

I've heard if you can withstand the first hours, it can be enjoyable from there on. Maybe on PC the resolution / fov could be modded? Seems like a performance decision, as even the stair camera seems it was meant for 16/9.

There are some great PC mods that get rid of the bars, game looks great as a result. Definitely uses it as a performance trick, on PS4 it runs at 1920x768 or something of the sort.

Alas, I bound myself to the PS4. Ah no big dead, I'll play it how Mikami wanted me to.

I do not buy the ps3 versions of any game that is also on the ps4. Probably getting a ps4 by next summer and its not to long a wait to play the games with a smoother framerate and better resolution.

Picked up a Playstation 3 recently and along with it Resistance and Vanquish.
For some reason I felt a lot of nostalgia for old school PC FPS when playing Resistance. It feels like a game thats sort of trapped between a PS2 and PS3 graphically but its still pretty decent looking. The fact that the game locations are not far off from where I live was pretty fun to look - the games "bland" colour pallet aint that far off from how still looks like in a couple of places here. The game is a little difficult at first, a lot of it had to do with the fact that this was the first time I was using Dual Analog sticks in an FPS game after years of using either a Wii Remote or Mouse/Keyboard. While the core gameplay isnt exactly groundbreaking even for 2007 its a solid FPS. The weapons are cool, the alternate history setting and the large scale environments are pretty neat as well. Definitly considering picking up Resistance 2 later on.

Vanquish for the PS3 is fantastic.
This was initially incredibly difficult to play through, not only because of using Dual Analog , but also because I found it hard having shake off the way you would normally play first/third person shooters. Its very different to anything I've played before. The gameplay can be descibed as part bullet hell shump, part run and gun, smashed in to a third person shooter. It has a very cool slide mechanic and bullet time effect too. The pacing is very fast and youre encourage to move around constantly. The graphics are awesome and environments, swarms of enemies and bosses are wonderfully outrageous. I'm a big fan of the Anime Mecha genre and really dig the art style and the feel of the game. The story is B-Movie fun, which is nice break after playing a stream of serious games.
If Konami, SNK, Capcom or Treasure ever decide to bring one of their 2D run 'n gun games to 3D, Platinum Games Vanquish makes an excellent reference to start from. There is a lot of replay, eventually I want to able to play like the gamer in this video

Soldier of Fortune - 8/10

There was many very linear levels out there, but overall, the game is good. I played half of the game in 3D with TriDef 3D Ignition + QindieGL -combination. It added some nice depth to the dated graphics of the game. (BTW: shadows are done better in SoF than SoF2.)

Next, I will try to finishing Tomb Raider Anniversary this year... Quite a long time I started it.
