EDIT: SOLUTION

Problem finally solved =)

Here are the findings. With credit to RedLion, Squall-Leonhart, and masta.g.86.

This should help others!

Eternal SPU 1.50 Sound
CHECKED Enable Sound
CHECKED Enable CDDA Sound
CHECKED Enable XA Sound
UNCHECKED Enable SPU IRQ hack

Audio Device - Direct Sound
Buffer size 40
Audio out method SPUasync
Async mode Smooth
CHECKED Cache VAG decode (personal choice for the moment)

Alcohol 52% mounted (My file is a .MDS file)
ePSXe & game loaded with SaPu's CD-ROM Plugin 1.0 (Please visit here for latest drivers - Emuforums.com - Downloads - CDR plugins)
UNCHECKED Track ISO9660 File System
Caching level 3
Cache size 8

Eternal SPU is probably the most accurate. Just be sure to adjust the buffer size to around 40 and set SPUAsync -> Smooth.

The change to ESPU you recommended has not made a difference. =\ Lol, my buffer size was default 80. I do have a powerful machine so Aud/Vis settings can be high. Yet, I have tried with bare-bone basic settings, as I am not totally afraid of testing the game in ''uglyzor'' mode.

I do believe the problem may stem from ePSXe's CD drivers. The game itself has been backed up as a .MDS / .MDF combo.

So, we can continue to discuss other drivers that bare resemblence to PSX here, or you can check out my thread on the ePSXe forum which should help fill you in if you in with advanced details if you wish to help :)

DO NOT set the sound buffer size to 80. Don't even use the default 64. Both are too high in nearly all cases.

The sound buffer size has nothing to do with how powerful your PC is. The sound buffer is... well... a buffer for raw audio data. Setting too high can induce audio lag. Setting too low will induce skipping.

EDIT: Oh, I see. (sorta)

I think you will need to mount the .mdf in daemontools and *may* have to enable digital audio. I can't remember exactly, but iirc the Tomb Raider series has similar problems in ePSXe. You may be able to fix your problems by searching out an old TR2 help thread.

Yes, I'm totally aware of what you're saying. It was actually just defaulted so high like that on its own. There was no user intervention at all :)

Thanks, I'll look it up. By the way, RedLion, on the ePSXe forum suggested I use Alcohol 52%, and that has actually made a positive change for this game (might do for others too). It hasn't fixed the music or voices problem, but it added pre-game clips, which is good. I use Daemon Tools, and PowerIso usually anyway.

where did you get 1.0 from?

sapu 1.0 isn't supported in epsxe 1.7.

On Google, when I searched for 1.3, the only links with valid downloads pointed to 1.0

So, I couldn't find 1.3 anywhere. Plus, I'm using 1.6 on my machine rather than 1.7

EDIT: If I wasn't in such a hurry at the time, I'd have remembered to have given credit to both masta.g.86, and RedLion, in which I will now.
