The petrol qualities in your blood is surfacing.
Drifting at that speed is possible. Its the movements and pickup speed of the cars that are exaggerated, 100km/h shouldnt be that fast.
But the CG... I dont know, I find them really out of the ordinary for an anime, especially the sound effects which in some cases and scenes are just unrealistically real, and especially in Stage2.
Stage1 has a better story though.
Stage3 has better CG but is VERY unrealistic.

edit: BTW...ES, how much more "smart" you want them to be? The main character and his partner were meant to be not-quite-so-right in their expressions in the first place anyway. :p

Tom_E i dunno how you get such great shots but post more!

For anyone who's interested in the game, I found two good reviews of the Japanese ps2 version. This one's pretty good, and has a total history of the game + a lot of screenshots - http://firingsquad.gamers.com/games/initial_d_import_review/ Jump to the Racing RPG & Final Verdict sections if you want to skip the history. They gave the game a 70% rating. They recommend it for fans of the anime and say: "Ultimately, the saving grace of Initial D Special Stage is that it has enough novelty and style that lets you enjoy the game for a while. At the cost of $1/race in the arcade, the game certainly deserves a passing grade. Our recommendation is simple. If you've never seen the Initial D anime before, check it out sometime just to see what it's like. If you're not a fan, skip this game and look elsewhere for your racing fix." This is the other review - http://www.ntsc-uk.com/review.php?platform=ps2&game=InitialD It's really positive and says: "In conclusion Initial D Special Stage is a fantastic driving game that actually brings something fresh to the genre. It succeeds because it not only provides an arcade adrenalin buzz, but also encourages experimentation and improvement until the potential of the car and player have been fully realised, which will keep players coming back for more and for longer. " The game's definitely very close to the original anime storyline and play, so I don't think it'd appeal to everyone (especially since the graphics aren't the best). But otherwise it looks cool.

Who cares if it's too unrealistic? If this anime was realistic I wouldn't want to see it. Gran Turismo the anime? Hah! *snore*

Actually, the brings me to another point. I prefer playing Need for Speed and Midnight Club II instead of Gran Turismo because of the fantasy aspect.

But tyre screeches still sound like the cries of a tortured, demented kid.
And takwu, I heard those... from this game. :D

I do much prefer the arcade style of this game to that of Need for Speed and Gran Tourismo. I love the fact that I can go into a corner at full speed and just drift round it (like in Sega Rally), rather than in NFS, GT and Auto Modelista, where I have to slow to a relative crawl to clear a corner no sharper than finalight's wit.
