In case you're wondering FGPT = Fawad's Game Progression Thread.

Hands ON:

Just got it yesterday in exchange for my ol' GT3 DVD, and I am dissappointed to be honest. Why? may be because of false advertisement, may be because of its departure from the classic NFS titles........

The graphics were the fist thing I needed to check out as I had heard it'll featre graphics which may blow away GT3's. No that hasn't happened. GT3's wet tracks are still the best I have seen to date. And reflections on the cars are sometimes wierd. Also the car models are nowhere as detailed as GT3's.

The basic gameplay appeared to be the same which is the best thing here. Of course I can't say much as I have just got it and played only a few races. BUT HEY, where the Fâ•«ck are all the cops? This illegal street racing and it would have been most logical if there were hot pursuit in this game! it isn't just the same without the classic "supa sanic ha spid chasin'".

And I learnt that ALL THE TRACKS ARE PRACTICALLY THE SAME!

And no Ferraries, Lambis, Mercs, Larens in case you STILL don't know.

So far not so good. I don't see myself playing this game much longer, specially since I have bought FFX-2 along with it. NFS HP2 got me WAAAAAAAAAY more excited than this one. I think you might be able to find my review here on NGemu.

I see myself treating this NFS just like I treated NFS PU. Selling it and playing the previous NFS some more.

My mood might change about it, and definetly others might love this game; but it is in NO way better (better means more fun) than NFSHP@ and I am of course talking about the Black Box's version on the PS2.

Well I'll besticking with my PS2 demo for a while. Hopegully you see some good things and that could encourage me to buy it :p I played the demo and it runs perfect speed and NO slowdown unlike alot off people are saying. Keep us posted Fawad. ;)

hmmm..well I'm playing this game like crazy, me and my Bro compete in Drag Race and its fun as hell, also the ability to customize and make ur own cars! its pretty Cool. There have been a lot of complains about the tracks every where, but I am pretty much okay with it.

Graphics are okay, not much imressed with it.
All in all its a good game, but not as good as NFS-HP2.

I still prefer GT3 over NFS series anytime. IMO , the best NFS i've played is still the Porsche Unleashed. NFS: underground isnt a good game for me. The cars are too easy to control , i mean it seldom require brakes unlike gt3 , which makes it really unrealistic. Well , i've seen my bro play it for a few days , and is still repeating the same track. :lol:Hmm , one thing they got it right is the possibility to upgrade cars, unlike in HP2. But anyway , GT3 is still the best so far . Let's hope GT4 will be even better. ;)

So damn true that a monkey just fell of its tree.

While GT3 is, without a doubt, *the* adorable balance between gameplay and realism, there are people out there who prefer sense of speed coming from special effects or ridiculous passing of scenery, regardless whether the gameplay requires only the push of a button (or two occasionally).

I however get the sense of speed by taking a corner at the limit of a whatever-Im-driving, so long as it doesnt crawl. Or by sliding(If you will, drifting) through it, so long as the game doesnt actually do it for me. ;)

Please, don't compare the simulation and arcade feels. I didn't ever complained about NFSU's gameplay.

And GT4 won't be out by January IIRC.

Im very dissappointed upon hearing that there isn't a hot pursuit mode in NFS: Underground. That only means that im going to have to bust out the good ol' Dupe-it machine ;) I was also dissappointed in NFS: HP2 for its complete lack of night settings and no weather effects. The sountrack was sh!tty and the cops were less brutal than in NFS: HP. ;(

Sorry I didnt make it clear, but the bottom part of my post was a reply to Valeron, and of course voicing(typing) out my opinion.

I heard GT4 will be out only by spring time of Japan, which I think I read was sometime around April of next year.

seems you've at least not played the latest nfs yet (because of the one or two buttons comment) ;)

also, I thought you always claimed GT3 being realistic, but now you're saying its a blend between gameplay and realism (so it's apparantly not so realistic?). And, if there was ever a series that was a mix between those two, it was NFS. Not GT.

What's so realistic 'bout NFS? I love this series because of its unrealism :p

U my man are definetly not talking about the PS2 NFS HP2.

Alright, I'll admit I only played the drag events. :p But of course that was only exaggeration, accelerate and NOS themselves are already two buttons :p The main point was to criticise how little the game focuses on controlling the car.

If a racing game were to be totally realistic, even without the proper hardware, it would have to include clutch control, and with the analog buttons of the PS2 gamepad it wouldnt be that hard to implement (but of course would make gameplay ridiculous). While GT3 has a somewhat realistic gameplay, the absence of clutch control and the shifting of gears that takes only the press of a button doesnt make it realistic, in a sense, although the way the car handles is somewhat -more- realistic than most other racing games.

IIRC and if I were in the correct mind, I dont think I ever said that GT3 was realistic... I only argued that it was more realistic than NFS, and that it was one of the more realistic racing games around.

The only NFS I remember playing that had car handling realism at an acceptible level was Porsche Unleashed. That, I say is also a nice blend between gaming and realism.

The latest NFSs does offer realism to a certain level, as well. The engine makes noise, which is evidence to backup that it is generating power, and the power generated moves the wheels. The wheels therefore move the car, and scenery therefore moves backwards. When you crash, the clashing creates a noise that is close to that of real life'. Your car gets damaged, and the race either ends or you go on driving with a few circumstances from crashing. That, is indeed realism.

The NFS of late however took a dive in handling realism to cater to a wider market of generic players, which is perfectly acceptible from a marketing viewpoint. This however also means that the more enthusiastic racing gamers will be disappointed, and that was, still is exactly, my point and arguing grounds: Handling realism (I think I had reffered it as gameplay realism, which is of course wrong).

Correct, I have the PC version of NFS:HP2. I enjoy playing it, but I always have the music turned off and the difficulty on its max. Oh, and based on what you said, I'm hoping that not just the PC version lacked weather and night settings! :???: Some games such as the NFS series I only get for PC because I can modify things within the game.

Just wait til you get further in the game. The races get ridiculously hard and the AI becomes increasingly cheap. I've been stuck on race 86 for a day, finally beat it by switching to a Mazda RX-7 and having a large amount of luck, and now im stuck on race 91, a tournament in which the AI and traffic can combine to be a downright pain in the ass.

well i like NFS:HP2 but i absolutely LOVE this...gives me a better feeling when i win a race...graphics are nice but lotsa reflections...i don't mind if all the races are similar as long as they are all not exactly the same...and for some reason i hate the GT series with an indefinate passion...don't ask why...because i dont know...overall i can't get enough of this game...compared to NFS:HP2...well...this doesn't have split screen as far as i know on pc so i cant play with my friends...only downfall :(...I likes it

#22 · (Edited)
NFS-U ist totally repetitive... already gets boring after few hours.. basically you're practically racing same few (2-3+mirrors?) tracks hundereds of times just to upgrade your car. thats all.. no fun as some people are talking here. gameplay is not nearly good as NFS-PU. maybe the multiplayer is fun, but i guess not for long time too :/ overall: waste of money, waste of time. simulationfans stick to GT or at least to CMR and bury this one (not exactly :p ).. this is nothing for serious racing-gamers. just something for arcade gamers, who play for a short time. just MHO ;)

It's all in personal preference...frankly when people street race...normally they stick to their "hood" and ya know...i don't think the roads change between each race...and like i said, personal preference...i like arcade racers...simulation of racing is just no fun for me...some people will like it...some wont...but if you think about it...arent all other racers just courses with different settings...i mean in NFS:HP2 each one consists of a different path which this does...the backdrop is different...but your still doing the same thing over and over again...though this is just in the same setting so people say its repetative...once you get farther in the game the routes change more....not much i can do just figured i'de say my thoughts

#24 · (Edited)
repetitive - i was talking not only about the tracks, it was about the whole game ;) but the tracks ARE repetitive. its actually only 1 track (some roads are now blocked, some are open, later reverted again and so on). i actually got bored really soon, couz after 2 hours there was nothing new to see in this game.. same daytime, same weather, same track, same boredom :)

EDIT: and you can read, i wrote there: game is ok for arcade-gamers but not good enought for driving-sim gamers ;)

but as i said before...just a different route like any other game...and i don't find it repetative in gameplay more than any other game if not less repetative considering there's drag, drift, sprint, and circuit which keeps the game interesting for me...and the drive to keep modding your car and getting new vinyl and such also adds a little fun to the game...some people just dont like it...I always loved wipeout games...they about look the same track wise (at least the last one i played) and i never got tired of that game either...its just what people prefer...because i get yelled at all the time for not like GT but all others besides me seem to like it...and i also dont like racing games and i like this one...that has to say a little...
