I have a super powerful pc. I74790k, titan x, 32gn ram. etc.

When playing 2d games Im noticing a micro stutter when moving my character "megaman 8, castlevania". My frame counter stays at 60 but the lag is clearly noticeable. 3d games run flawless however.

Never had this issue on epsxe 1.9 (software mode, xbrz filter)

More details on current setup: epsxe 2.0 . settings: xbrzx4, opengl2, widescreen,. resolution: 3840x2160. internal res: normal shader effects: NONe

is anybody else experiencing 2d games lag on epsxe 2.0?

I had a similar problem.
Configure the ePSXe SPU core, set the sound latency to Low latency.
Thanks for the reply. changing the sound latency made no difference. However I noticed that when I run the emulator on my monitor...2d games run smoothly. But when ran on my tv set...The micro stutter reappears on all 2d games.

All my tv's post processing is turn off. and i have "game mode" enabled. I wonder what the issue could be hmmm.

Im back four months later to report that this issue is still present. 2d games arent running smooth in epsxe version 2.05. Ive tried turning on vsync. forcing vsync though nvidia control panel. Nothing is workimg.

After doing some googling...I cant find anyone else having this same issue. I am shocked.

But just to recap,,, This issue only apppears in 2d games. When you are moving your character (Megaman)...there is a judder in movement. FPS stays at 60 but gameplay isnt at all smooth.

And further...using software mode in epsxe 1.9...2d games run flawless. How to I get 2d games to run the same way in epsxe 2.05??

THanks!

I am assuming that there some settings in 2.0 that you really want or need to have.

Years back it was quite a common practice to have 2 or even 3 versions of an emulator (psx emulators were particularly known for this practice), since fairly decent numbers of games would only work on specific versions of the emulator and some games (xenogears comes to mind) practically required multiple emulator versions to get past some bugs/glitches in different parts of the game.

So if you can't fix the micro stutter by changing options/plugins then maybe having 1.9 for 2d games and 2.0+ for 3d games will at least work as a stop gap, if the issue is something out of your control.

You mentioned you are using a Titan X gpu. Did you try swapping outputs to your TV? Trying using displayport or dvi if you are currently using hdmi.
Also if you happen to have another graphics card lying around (you must have considering that you can even afford a Titan X), maybe switch them out and see if the problem persists- if it does then it's an emulator problem, which is likely considering the number of bugs that are present in ePSXe 2.0.5.

Sorry to revive this thread in 2019 but I have the same issue like kenn; tested on ePSXe 2.0.5 using the ePSXE GPU core 2.0.0 on my i5 4460, 16 gb ram, nvidia gtx 1050 ti 4gb asus with windows 7 64 bit pro; I've tested with Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Mega Man series.
I didn't try the 1.9.0 version to see if the micro stutter is present or not.

I use GpuBladesoft 1.64 of 1.46 as my video Plugin of preference, and i don't have any issues of any kind.

Maybe inside at your Nvidia options. Put V-Sync or Vertical Sync ON. And for the emulator video configs, put the v-sync stuff turned OFF. And of course, watch out for the FPS / Frame Rates configs. Maybe it may the cause of all of your problems.

I used ( for the 2D games ) Peops GPU Software, GpuBladesoft, Pete Plugins. And they worked fine on me. I don't like the ePSXe Core Internal plugin for Video. And normally i use the ePSXe 1.90 version for almost everything. I don't like the 2.05 version.
But the 1.80 19.25, 2.00 and 2.02-1 versions are great by indeed. I refuse totally on using the 2.05 version. Too buggy, i wont tolerate it's problems. If you want a more perfect sync at the audio for an specific games, you must use the 1.80 and 1.90 versions, and after that it will be an a dull sounding experiences at some games.

Hope it will help all of you.

I've tried that on ePSXe 2.0.5 without any luck.
The micro stutter is there, I can see it.
I've totally change to RetroArch with PlayStation (Beetle PSX HW) core; I highly recommend this setup. (it's true that some games have bugs, but the list is small)

Hi, i was just testing some new changes to the lates epsxe 2.0.5
I noticed sthe stutter as well, using ePSXe Core Plugin.
But i had to play with some audio plugins, like Eternal SPU (1.50)
Image

Setting Audio Out Method to SPUAsync and Smooth mode gave me the best result, more smoothness (Teste on Megaman X4) Impossible, dindnt even need to enable Vsync
You just can notice a short jump on speed when game is loading or reading from MemCard
On Another Game like Digimon Rumble Arena makes game accelerated in some battle finish scenes.

For that , you can select "Wait" in Async mode: thats the best balance between smoothness and artifacts
Notice im talking when using 2.0.5 and ePSXe Core GPU
