some months ago i read some news about a meteor that passed near earth from a distance that was smaller or not much bigger than earth to moon's

and they only discovered this meteor after it had already passed

you never know, we can be hit in about 5 minutes from now!

what was also funny was the newscaster was just smiling and

saying no need to worry scientist are now planning on nuking or

using laser tech to blast it...

do we even have lasers that powerfull?? or are we gonna shoot it when its a few kms from earth...

I think they(the us govt. and NASA, heck the whole world) need to start seriously thinking about some sort of global defense system or something, yeah this meteor might not hit us, but what about the other millions of asteroids out there, I just think it might only be a matter of time before one hits us and destroys most of earth's population like what happened with the dinosaurs, so mabye this news about the asteroid should be a wake up call.

ya sure ,now everybody is laughing about a meteor hitting earth and things like "nuke it!"or"use a laser" but when it is going to happen we will all panic....and who will help us????not amerika,not afrika,not europe ,not even russia,but......MIGHTY MOUSE!!!!

AFAIK if they luanch a nuke and hit it. Metorite bits (radiated) will hit the earth and the ones that hit the ground will prove to be also devastating.
What happens after the nuke runs out of feul? It wil lose trajectory and go somewhere to another place. Good timing and a nuke are not enough to destroy the asteroid and prevent ALL disaster.


BTW that news reporter who smiled about destroying it with lazers and nukes must be shot.

BUT If the probability increases that it will hit earth then there is a risk (regardless if it's 0.2 or 1 chance in happening). It may or may not hit earth. We have scientists to figure out the prb.
