the customizations options in Mozilla are huge
1.u can chose plugins to make it faster like faster fox
2.u can get all plugins u want for example blog search, torrent search hundreds of skins.
3.it is faster than ie7.
4.it is clean it does not display ****ing errors like this page is encrypted etc it depends on user it can enable them also.
opens faster,i have not seen any pop ups since i have used firefox
5.it wont except tool bars from software like yahoo toolbar etc

ie7 is just a lame copy of firefox 1.5

IE7 because its fast and works. There are some nice underrated plugins for it that make it much better. I could care less about LOL MICROSOFT and HEY FREE SOFTWARE crap.

Firefox takes like 3 days to start up and eats 2783492 gb of ram. I can't afford either. If I have to use it for something like checking webpage coding, I use lolifox (built on ff2) because it has a cuter name.

why is it a pain in the butt? I actually find ie7 to be quite useful. In many ways on my system it runs better than mozilla. what makes FF2.0 so much better in people's opinion?

Personally, I can't really tell which one I'm using unless I look up and see the blue arrows or the green arrows.
What annoys me about I.E 7 is
getting the message pop up of allowing active x control for the site

when you're scrolling down the page and it scrolls backup to say that message, its annoying.

FF is arguably the safest browser and I love the add-ons and Themes you can get with it.

Plus if a security hole has been found with it, the developers release an update with in weeks/months rather than years.

Use to use MYIE/Maxthon. Than switched to Firefox because maxthon had some bugs which makes it stop loading pages until you restart it. The only reason i used MYIE/Maxthon was because of the SuperDragandGo. And the tabbed windows. But nothing new about that anymore these days.

But since Firefox offers all that i mentioned above and more, i switched to Firefox. And the huge amount of plugins i can add to firefox is also a plus, like cookiesafe or addblock or videodownloader. Only bad thing about firefox is the startingtime. I have no idea why it takes so frigin long to start up Firefox. But once its running it works like a charm imo.

I only use IE7 for checking webmail from college, since firefox cant show it properly...

For those, you can use the IEtab plugin, it opens a new tab by using the IE engine. It even works with Windows Update, so I don't even remember how the IE GUI looks now ^^

Firefox 2 hands down:D

It has tons of extensions, Which almost all of them are free unlike IE7 which charges $$$ for Almost all of it's addons/extensions.

Firefox 2 is Safer, Better and a bit faster on my Machine than IE7.

I haven't been infected with a Virus/Malware/Spyware/Adware in a long time, and whenever I do a Scan it My PC is always clean except for a couple of false positives from programs that are clean.

I haven't Received a Popup ever since using Firefox or Firefox 2.0, and the Adblock and Noscript extensions keep me safer than ever.

When a Security hole or vulnerability is found in Firefox, it is patched almost instantly and released in an update in the next day or two, unlike IE7.

For anything Internet Explorer related, I just use Internet Explorer Tab, which works perfectly.

Firefox 2.0 has a nice Spell Checker built in it, that doesn't seem present in IE7.

As mentioned above, Firefox is Highly customizable, with new Skins, Extensions, Plugins, and you can Disable/Enable certain things you Do/Don't want.

It doesn't throw out the dreaded errors Internet explorer does, Such as Page errors, and such. And the you are entering/leaving an encrypted page can be disabled on Firefox.

In Firefox 2, you can enable Links/New Pages to open in a tab rather than a new window, which I didn't see an option for in IE7.

We that's all I can think of, anyone feel free to add more;)

firefox starts in 3 seconds or less, unless you're starting it before your computer is done booting. IE works, but the speed depends more on your internet connection than the browser.

it's not about free software, last time i checked IE was free too for windows users. Or do they demand an additional fee to get IE 7 now? O.C. there are some nice plugins, but i'm sure you've got the same or better in FF too.

what RAM does IE use and what does it matter anyway? are you playing oblivion or another ram consuming game and having your web browser running in the background?

Sorry for asking, what version of FF did you try? 0.75?

>> firefox starts in 3 seconds or less, unless you're starting it before your computer is done booting.

3 seconds if its generous, or cached to RAM. In that time I can open and load a page in another browser tho.

>> IE works, but the speed depends more on your internet connection than the browser.

Every browser loads pages only as fast your internet connection can grab the data, I don't see the problem here. Or are you insinuating that Firefox loads pages without depending on my internet connection or what.

By free I meant free source. I could give jack about free source. And I could care even less about Firefox plugins that add even more memory leaks to the browser.

>> what RAM does IE use and what does it matter anyway? are you playing oblivion or another ram consuming game and having your web browser running in the background?

It matters a lot that FF sometimes decides to shoot up to 300mb or more, regardless of what apps I run in the background. Especially with Mozilla constantly denying the memory leak (and other performance) problems. If you'd ever tried the nightmare of running Firefox on a slower computer, you wouldn't be surprised on this.

>> Sorry for asking, what version of FF did you try? 0.75?

Wasn't it still called Firebird or Phoenix or whatever back in ver 0.75?

My Firefox 2.0.0.3 only uses 43,948 K Memory According to the Processes Tab in the Task Manager, and doesn't use much CPU.

Once my Computer loads up, Firefox starts and loads emuforums in 2 - 4 Seconds or so, maybe a couple seconds longer due to me being on satellite with higher latency/ping times.

And get my Specs, which are probably much worse than a lot of yours:

I'm running Vista with a Celeron D 330 @ 2.66 Ghz, 1024 Megs of Ram, With a Geforce FX 5500, with no visible or Recognizable slowdowns while running firefox and most other applications, except for Emulators which tend to run slower in Vista than XP.

Also I have a Buttload of extensions installed in firefox as well, so I think if there was a problem with it I would of noticed it.

And Also, in the newer Firefox Versions 2.0 and above, I think they fixed most of the memory leak problem, and runs a lot better than previous firefox versions, prior to 2.0;)

Mozilla Firefox (currently 2.0.0.3), been using it since v0.8 when the name was changed. It is installed on both of my computers.

I even have it installed at University using my allocated network space and temporary storage, and I am the only one I know of at Uni who does this (everyone else I know uses the standard IE6). I also have about 150 neatly organised favourites in a sidebar, so I barely have to touch the keyboard most of the time. I can get around the web pretty quickly with minimal effort by middle-clicking links and so on. I don't need or use extensions. The Spell checker is especially useful for me for emailing lecturers and making forum posts.

I started to use Firefox since 1.0 and I never looked back. Though at uni we still have to use IE 6, and I'm really pissed off they don't simply install firefox, or at least upgrade to IE7. I know there's workarounds, so next year I'll ask around in my class on how to do that.

firefox 2.x . A few bugs but way better overall than IE which has more bugs. It boots faster than IE, uses less RAM (if configured properly) has better compatibility than I.E. many useful plugins, infact I'm not sure what IE does better.

It boots faster than IE....
Wow, that's a new one. In most cases IE loads at the blink of an eye due to preloaded components at Windows startup. Then again, with IE7 this might not be the case.

Anyway, Firefox 2.0.0.3 user here. Been using it since v1.5 and haven't looked back. I can't even think of anything IE does better than Firefox.

With my new laptop and desktop I have decided to attempt to go MS-centric. Instead of being a Firefox user just cuz LOLZ MIKKKRO$$$OFT SUXXX, I want to actually *use* IE7 and see how it performs on a daily basis and as a typical user of it. I primarily use Vista x64 Ultimate on my laptop and I use 64-bit IE7 whenever I can get away with it. I have IE7 on XP64 which I rarely use since I'm usually in Final Fantasy XI.

I really have little to complain about. The interface feels a bit random and arbitrary, but it loads quickly and displays pages with no issues. Since 64-bit browsers can't run 32-bit plugins and there's hardly any 64-bit plugins at all (not even Flash player, GRRR), I'm not too worried about getting any unexpected stuff installed.

I'm not sure what IE7 would need to do to convince me to use Firefox again.

Here's what i was talking about:

I don't ever see IE7 do that. It just doesn't look nice.

One thing I do like about Firefox is that it has a decent spellchecker (ironically it doesn't have the word "spellchecker" ah well. anyways we'll see if I stick with this soon.
btw im using FF2, n that site loads fine for me, its more likely you're getting packet loss loading that site, or youve not "tweaked" your FF settings :p

as I said, I honestly can't tell the difference between the two. the interface is very similar - even down to the placement of the icons/toolbars/tabs etc. One nice thing about Firefox is the spell-checker - although that can get slightly annoying when spelling a word like "toolbar" (which by default is not recognized).

I consider myself a double user - I use IE7 sometimes, and Firefox other times. I never understand how some people become "fanboy" types for an Internet browser. (or, for that matter, an OS (Linux vs. Windows vs. Mac OS) or a computer type (PC vs. Mac). To me, a fanboy is someone who is like "IE7 sucks, Mozilla is better" or vice versa. There's no way somebody can convince me that IE7 sucks because it is very usable, it loads quite quickly, and it's very compatible with the software. To be honest I found installing Google Toolbar (as a plugin) a big PITA because when I clicked "edit options" button at the top, it didn't bring anything up like it was supposed to. One nice thing about FF compared with IE7 is the fact that it automatically keeps the tabs you have opened and opens them up when you resume Firefox. This is a nice feature - not sure if IE7 can do it but it doesn't do it by default. Anyways...

As far as pop-ups, I get one every time (from this forum) I go on a computer that I am not "remembered/signed in" for this forum - if I have to sign in - Firefox or IE7 - I get a pop-up. If I am signed in then I do not get a pop-up.at all. (nor any ads). The "tribal fusion" pop up window seems to delay itself so as to make sure that it pops up with or without a pop-up blocker. Actually right now I am finding Firefox somewhat annoying because it is telling me words like "toolbar, firefox, and popup are incorrectly spelt (spelt IS a word, I know that for a fact) ... SPELLED (ahem). If they're going to include a spell checker, they should at least make sure words like that are included in the dictionary.

the site loads fine for me as well - loads fairly quickly but it has those gay little pink blue and red things in the top left of each downloading picture. Not a big deal, but it kinda annoys me :p
