GTA4 ran fine on my Phenom II rig at stock settings. (3.2GHz) The stuttering I got was on the center island while riding a motorcycle really fast downtown. I attribute it to my 512MB HD4850 having to dynamically load all of those textures.

yep get the i3, cheapo and cooler, and runs the same or better

basically i3 = 955be 965 970 etc, sometimes amd wins but most of the time i3 wins

also you need a cooler for the amd, so more money, also a good mobo for oc, so more money

i have a 965@3.9

Actually a decent mobo for intel (one not necessarily for OC) costs more imo then a decent one for amd. But i do agree it also needs a cooler, and with mobo+cooler may cost the same or a bit less then a good mobo for intel.

Btw since you have a 965 did you used it for emulators ? can you say about your performance in the same games Viper posted ?

Can someone line up a few examples of roughly "equivalent" boards at a few different price points to show a consistent backing for this, because I see there's expensive AMD boards and there's cheap Intel boards.

well i just played dolphin both zeldas, it was perfect (just not in hyrule field), also in ps2 i tested ffx and it was perfect, many other gamecube games works perfect too, i mean full framerate

but i am more pc gamer, so i am really happy

but just right now the i3 will win most of the time, unless some heavy weird threaded app

but i would just get the 2500 or 2500k, even stock than thing is a beast for emus, as every old i5 i7
