I cant play FF8 on espxe for some reason everytime I start to play it will always, always freeze up in the beginning fmv sequence. It seems to like to freeze after Squall grabs the sword from the ground and the feathers fly up in the air and then falling revealing Rinoa. I have messed around a bit with the graphics options and sometimes it will go a bit farther than that before freezing, or less. I am using Petes OpenGL driver 1.55.

I have tried playing directly from the disc and I have also tried playing it from an iso file but no matter which one I do it always has the same problem.(also when I write the iso file I get about 6 bad sector readings, but it always works fine when running on the playstation).

System Spec:
-geforce 2 video card
-p4 1700 mhz
-320 ram
-USA version of Final Fantasy 8

I thought I read something on the internet about the pc version having problems with geforce cards, dunno if this would have anything to do with the psx version.

If there is someone who has had this problem and fixed it please tell me how or if anyone just knows of to fix these things it would be much appreciated. I never got to finish ff8 before I moved to the uk =/.

Thanks

My first guess would be some problem with the CD-ROM... try making an ISO of your disc, then running it directly from ePSXe. If you need some help on this, do a search on the boards, you'll find plenty of info.

I used ePSXe 1.4.0 and I've had similar problem in FF8 but I think mine is worse. I couldn't see any FMV at all, just black screen with colourful horizontal lines but the sounds are ok. It happened again in the middle of the game when it came to an FMV sequence, just a black screen with sound.

I've tried to change the GPU Plugins several times but still no luck at first. Then I changed with ePSXe 1.2.0 (also with Psinex) and the problem was solved. So the problems might be in the ePSXe, not the plugins.

Just wondering, will it be solved in the next version of ePSXe ? I hope so.....

My spec:
PIII 750 MHz
128 MB SDRAM
nVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 32MB

I manage to bypass this problem by doing several thing:

1. create savestate at the first screen ( New Game & Continue screen)
2. select new game. the movie should run fine.
3. After the movie start for a few second load your save state.
4. Select continue and load the game.

After that the other movie will run fine. You have to do this everytime you start ePSXe. This methods work for me. Don't forget to check the SIO Irq before loading the mem. card

Hope that will help:)

nope havnt tried others

I think I tried once and I had the same problem as I do now, but I could have been using ePSXe before.

I tried using a movie viewer and I could grab all of them but them first fmv in which it gave me an error... I just used cd clone though and it worked awesome no errors at all... so im hoping its gonna work ok.

My only problem now is that its in .ccd format doh!... I tried cdmage and winimage but im not a technical freak. Im not sure how to make them into .iso files.
