mm, sorry jas_kidd32, but if you talked to more than 2 people who have FF7 for PC you'll see it was buggy as heck, and Square released like 2 patches for it then took down the support site.
(It locks up every 15 min for me :( )
If you're running an emulated version you can save states, increase the resolutiuon, use Bilinear filtering or FSAA with a Voodoo 5, and you know there are gonna be new versions of emulators and plugins.

IT LOOK'S THAT FF X WILL NEVER EVER BE RELASED FOR PC , AND THAT MAKES ME MAD , VERY MAD ! I'M STARTING TO HATE SQUARESOFT , BECAUSE OF THAT AND THEIR STUPID ANSWERS !!! ARGHHH , but what can a simple person do agains it , Nothing & Everthing

Don't forget FF8PC. Though it was patched relatively quickly, an incompatability between the Yamaha SoftMIDI software and the game caused a problem whenever you entered a battle. I doubt I need to explain just why an error of this type made me think less of the porting team.

>you could just sit down and relax without having to fiddle with
>settings and plugins
I dunno, to get FF9 playing perfectly it took only a few hours (with the help of the board, of course ;) ), whereas getting the supposedly "native" versions of FF7 and 8 going took the better part of a day (two in the case of 8). Between downloading patches, changing video card, sound card, input drivers, doing a reinstall of the OS (FF7 hated the version of DirectX I had but, for whatever reason, didn't mind running under the very save version after a reinstall). I realize that some part of DX's may have been overwritten, but reinstalling the OS shouldn't be necessary to getting it working again.

Not to incite a flame war or anything, but why do you dislike Square just because they're unsure if they're going to bring FFX to the PC? As a business they look to make money while providing a product. If they see a demand, they consider allowing said product to come to market. If you'd like to see FFX come to the PC, why not write their local office a letter (that is, an actual physical letter) telling them as much? I'd like to see more of Square's games come to the PC also, but not if it causes Square to flounder in the marketplace. I mean, just imagine if they ultimately published FFX and it simply sat on shelves. Just a thought.

Folks,

I think the XBox may play an interesting role here in whether more Squaresoft stuff heads for the PC. Apparently, Microsoft, Square, and Enix are on the verge of making some sort of announcement regarding the XBox, which likely means that XBox will be getting some of Squaresoft's and Enix's stuff.

Two possible conclusions: (1) XBox will be the extent of any "Windows" port of Squaresoft games; (2) Programming for XBox is close enough to porting to Windows itself that taking the extra step of sending it to the PC market will be fairly insignificant.

In any event, PS2 ports shouldn't be that big of a hardware challenge for the PC market -- I think that the mainstream gaming machine as of January 2002 can go toe-to-toe with the PS2 without a problem.

Holy shit 5.2 GHz!!!!!!
It's problably a hoax or this guy extremely overclocked the fastest Pentium 4, got a pirated copy of FFX, and mooched a geforce 3 of a bum.

Anyways, the Xbox looks like it going pose a threat to the PS2. But in anycase, I'll just get top marks in school and tell my parents to buy me both machines. The people who are hoping for FFX to come out on PC should do the same just so we don't devalue Squaresoft's popularity. Besides, they're THE BEST rpg makers ever know to mankind!!!!

A 5.2 GHZ? No way. Even if you tried to overclock a P 4 or an Athlon-C or T-Bird that high, you would burn them up at breakneck speed. GEForce 3s are out now, but have just been released, so that guy could not have yet had one at that time.
Also, I don't care what anyone says, no PSX emulator in existance today is capable of running PS2 games. The PS2 is backward compatable w/the PSX, but the PSX is not upward comapatable w/the PS2. If it was, then why even buy a PS2? ePSXe is a fantastic emulator, but, no matter what, it will not play PS2 games, now or ever. It wasn't designed to.
I read in several reliable magazines and in various places on the internet that FF 9 is not going to be ported to the PC, Square was upset about how FF 8 did, so they are not going to port FF 9 or have it ported to the PC by someone else. FF 10 and FF 11 are slated to be ported to PC. As Bgnome said, a simultaneous release for both PS2 and PC is planned for FF 10. FF 11 may be an online game, like Phantasy Star On Line. Square has hinted at this, but nothing definate is known yet. Hope this helps clear up some of this.
sincerely,

The PIV's architecture could probably hit that, but not any of the ones currently on the market will...

An Athlon 1.2GHz can hit 2+GHz with Liquid Nitrogen cooling, 5.2 is entirely out of the question..
