well, thanks anyway, yeah, i wish i would be a bit older, so i can get a job, to be precise, 5 more years til' i turn the ripe violent age of 18. lol, still, i wish there was some way i can get my modem to speed up a bit more.

 

use a download manager like getright or Download Accelerator it should speed up your dl a bit

and the max a 56 k modem can dl at is 7 kb. sec

 

u can actually only reach 7kbps if no1 is usin the phone# that ur using but u or if u got som really amazing isp cuz there is no such isp like that here in ny

The download speed also depends on the type of software you're downloading. Modems have compression capabilities so you can download uncompressed stuff like text files at 10+ kbps while compressed MPG files will only go as fast as 5 kbps. Cable modem and DSL do not use compression.

You should use some download programs and speed internet . I used it and I can reach to 15 Kbps .

 

15kbps is impossible with 56k unless you are using Download Accelerator. It's speedmeter is messy, i got up to 100kbps!!!! (on 56k for a few seconds) :eek2:

 

actually my friend getting 12k+ download with his modem, I borrow it and use his account too, I still get 5.2k which is the same as my own modem with my own isp, so I think it's base on the phoneline and how close you're to the phoneline exchanger

 

Download accelerator was famed for spyware is it still?I get no speed increase, still 4.5-5.0 kb/s with this s/w and plus there have
another download increaser for $$

 

I sometimes get up to 635k/s on cable. Usually I get around 185k/s. I was using 56k for $20 a month. It was then that I realized that Cable would be more cost efficient. $40 a month, always on, doesnt tie up the phone line, very fast downloads = less time downloading.

That's known to happen when downloading things. It starts fast but then gradually slows down to the actual speed. It happens with cable as well, I would start downloading something at 90 kbps but it slow down to around 40 kbps by the end. Oh well..

 

If you're looking for a fast download manager, I would recommend flashget, it will max out your modem downloads.

flashget is the best ! it max out my dl to 5kb/s (on 56k) and 150kb/s on T1 (not mine of course :tongue2 the ads are not too annoying too.

You can´t make a modem download faster than it is build for (56K: 5-7KB/sec) because it´s the modem on the other side (at your ISP) that limits the speed. A download manager can help you to get that speed out of it.
Like someone mentioned, modems can do a little data compression for texts and other stuff that can be well compressed.

iv been doing that 4 at least 3 years (F)ragnarok(F) n all it does is eliminate the ad banner n online limit restrictions but not actually improve speeds u just gotta be lucky wit the phone #s (also its better then that crappy aohell or any other crap cuz its free )

Not only that, I've got a 384kbps conection and the highest "PEAK" was 150KB/s. I also noticed Esturk17 that in some servers like adobe's the downloading speed is awesome, as you pointed out.
