True. But the PC is the ultimate experience for any FPS.

after playing the beta i recommend these specs

Athlon XP 2500+ or Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
Geforce FX 5900 or higher or ATI Radeon 9800 or higher
512Mb ram or more

Note i cant guarentee this being accurate, it may work fine on a lower spec, but i know its playable on them specs.

You mean the alpha.. there is no "beta" leaked. The "beta 2" you see floating around is nothing more than the alpha tweaked by some fans to include a menu, more maps and whatnot. The alpha is based on quite old and un-optimized code, so those mean jack **** really. Not to mention it ran well on my P3 Tualatin @ 1.8GHz.. Cough.

im sure there are enough people out there with good systems to let them make a profit. sure they lose money by not letting the little people in, but there is no doubt if a game is great and requires high system reqs, there are enough people out there with good systems to make money off of
Well of course, the system reqs turned out to be better than I expected. A while ago, my thought was that Doom 3 was going to require essentially top-of-the-line everything once it came out, alienating a majority, and thus, selling less copies. If that were the case, and the game turned a profit, it still wouldn't be the success story it's probably going to be.

The fact still remains that they need to turn a profit, and if the game didn't sell because of unreasonable system reqs, well.... You can't pay developers on satisfaction alone you know. :p
You do realize that Id is a very small company (by choice), and only churns out a game once every several years. They don't need a lot of funding to keep them going. They're rich enough already; John Carmack drives a Ferrari F50 to work for cryin' out loud. They also license their engines to companies which can bring in some huge profits (just look at all the games based on the Q3A engine). Id has enough fans to bring in a hefty profit. A lot of people have upgraded their computers simply in anticipation of this game.

Those specs seem reasonable enough. CPU won't be a problem as most systems come with something over 2 Ghz. I find most systems lack GPU power though. They're mostly GF4 MXes, Radeon 9000s, or, God forbid, an Intel Extreme integrated.

>>damned straight, i think First Person Shooters should be banned from Consoles...the only good one ive ever played was Halo and i only liked it cuz of Coop...

Yea, I agree. I never played a really good fps before on a console. The controls jus aren't comfortable.

Exactly what i tought ;)
The Fps belong to the Pc

Actually Ironically the Geforce 4 MX's is the only Nv1X chipset supported. Though theoretically nothing would prevent any other NV1x chipset from working (same feature set aside from multi sampling AA and the improved memory controller)

Admittedly I wasn't taking id's standing as a smaller company into account, nor personal wealth status. :p But, Doom 3 is a pretty big deveopment ordeal, and if it had come out with unreasonable system reqs, I wouldn't have expected it to sell very well, putting a damper on its success. As a game with a namesake to live up to, unreasonable system reqs would've left a bitter taste in some gamers' mouths. But, the reqs are reasonable, which is not what I'd initially been hearing. Personally, I wouldn't have bothered to upgrade my system for Doom 3. Its multiplayer doesn't interest me enough for me to consider upgrading. But, I don't have to anyway, so whatever. :thumb:

If the title has anything to do with "doom" everybody and their grandma would buy it wether they could run it or not. Everybody loves doom!

Not everyone, I was never a huge fan really. Nor of the Quake series, but I do like the engines they make. id really excels at making the engines, not the games, MANY game that have used the QIII engine are FAR better then QIII as I see it. Medal Of Honor for one, RTCW aswell, and of course Call Of Duty.

Just to touch on what else Carmack drives, he has a Testarosa with 1000RWHP, and an F40 as daily drivers. Unreal...

I;m gonna buy this game. It looks damn scary from what i have seen in the videos. And Painkiller for me just wasn't scary. :p

I need to add some scary games other than Silent Hill :p

Heh, well gamers actually expect high system requirements with games from Id. All of their past games have been very stressful on the systems of the times. Yet they still sold very well and the system-stressing technology was actually what made them popular. I don't think anyone plays Id games for the game, but more for the technology. Doom 3 may be the only exception, although most people seem to be focusing on the technology with it as well.

Besides, why even get newer computer parts if new games are only going to require low-medium specs? Hardware improvements would only make sense if there was software to utilize it. And of course better software will inspire better hardware and the cycle continues. ChrisRay and I were saying the other day that we do so much to keep our systems updated, yet we only play games like WarCraft 3 (which runs on even low-end computers).

Hm doom3 seems good but i'll not bother with it for a long time but i may just try it on this comp for the hell of it:).

Yes, but we also wanna be able to play Doom 3, Far Cry, Half Life 2 etc ... Most of us don't just play 1 game. :p But I will agree that I also like to play older games.
