Bubbledrop. It was pretty awesome tetris kind of game with two player mode:D The only annoying thing was the ads that made you lose controls from time to time. Usually ended in death, especially after it sped up!

Not sure if it works anymore, try googling it.

Well, a browser based game that is considered RPG is monstersgame (Monstersgame - EN - World 1) - may be as well available in your native tongue.

A game that I played in the past and has lots of potential is Travian - Browser Game - Romans, Gauls & Teutons. It is kind of a mix between Asterix and AoE. Lots of fun.

Ogame is taken in very high regard, although I haven't played it. It has it's own section in gamefaqs, last time I checked, and the reviews are very positive.

eRepublik - The New World | Online Social Strategy Game seems very interesting, specially if you are into politics.

They seem to be all available in many languages (if not, then most of the games in this list), and are not like your average flash game. They are MMOs and require you to go back everyday, although many don't require that much daily time. They are not flash games, BTW.

They seem to be all free, too, which is an undeniable plus.

I don't play browser based games very much, so I will keep my list very short. I will post more games when I remember them (or find some new):

1. Tetris - Very good and addictive, even when played with a browser. (No Link.)

2. Portal: The Flash Version - Strongly recommended. (Specially for Steam-haters! :)) (Portal: The Flash Version | Play Portal: The Flash Version Game Free Online | UGOPlayer.com)

I think Chess is not at it's best on a browser. It's not very fun to sit for hours online (specially with modem connection), you can get too dump opponents (my old classmate's comment) and you won't have all the features which are included in commercial games. Well, that's my opinion. I still recommend trying.

---

I recommend trying, but won't nominate "one of the best":

The World's Hardest Game - You can die, but it's not recommended if you want to be one of the best players ever. This game is great fun, trust me. (The Worlds Hardest Game - Free Arcade & Classic Game from AddictingGames) ( ...And it's not the hardest.)

Auditorium is seriously awesome.
Nanaca Crash is also really good once you actually understand how to fully play it. Try it out!
