for movies, I liked Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

 

Depends on what kind of anime are you looking for... Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X, but watch it only until the end of the Kyoto Arc)... Clamp stuff is pretty good (though it features some strange things...), Gundam Wing, Endless Waltz (GW OVA)... just to name a few...

 

It depends on what you like-
Sci-Fi: Ghost in the Shell, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop
Fantasy: Almost anything by Miyazaki, Inu Yasha, Slayers, im sure others could fill this category better than I.
Other ones that I can't think of a category for- Ranma 1/2 (marital artist turns into a girl when splashed by cold water, and back into a male with hot) and Gun Smith Cats (two Female Bounty Hunters in Chicago).

 

Oh man... Slayers... now that was a great fantasy anime, really great... specially Xellos. Anyway other animes that I recall are : Saber marionette j/j to x, Pia Carrot (bad ending, but as for the rest it was a great mini serie), if I see you in my dreams (probably the responsible for me to want to play dating sims), Oh My Goddess...

 

ive seen this one anime a few months back called 'Onegia Teacher' OMG that was soooooooooo funny

 

n ecchi now i have all the episodes, oh yeah!
now back to the topic, i dont watch anime but hikaru no go is pretty good if ur into more "dramatic" anime. they get all emotional over go :crazy: but its still good! :thumbup:

Currently i'm watching naruto, and it's very good too.
and berserk and scryed are 2 titles that are very good too

Galaxy Angel 1+2+3, DiGi Charat, Excel Saga, Gundam SEED, Nadesico, Tenshi na Konamaiki, Rizelmine 1+2, Initial D 1+2+3, Kareshi Kanojo no Jijyo, Mahoromatic 1+2, Pumi Pumi Poemi, Vandread 1+2, You're Under Arrest, Great Teacher Onizuka, Card Captor Sakura (Albeit it's kiddy, it's suprisingly addicting!), and Hunter X Hunter.

One more thing. Whatever anime you get, watch only the subbed, not DUBBED versions. They are evil and will make you hate anime forever. Fansubs are the best sources.

 

My personal favorites:
Inu Yasha, Hellsing, Love Hina, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Excel Saga, You're Under Arrest and The Slayers

 

Just started watching Kyo, pretty cool though I had a hard time following the first episode. Heh, clearly aimed at people already familiar with the manga, but I'm used to that. Just look at the ending of Berserk, if you'd never read the manga there's about a 40% chance you'd be scarred for life.

I've also been watching .hack sign lately. It's a good premise but it's slower moving than Gasaraki and no where near as interesting.

Oh and agent Aika is an interesting series... it easily has the most gratuitous panty shots ever. Imagine a fight scene with a dozen ladies in mini-skirts who enjoy high kicks.

Aika is way past ecchi... the transformations scenes are almos gross...

 

As usual, I'll back up Serial Experiments Lain for something cyberpunk. As for a movie, watch Memories (esp. "Magnetic Rose") by Katsushiro Otomo, responsible for Akira. The new Ghost In The Shell series (GiTS: Stand Alone Complex) seems promising, though somewhat out of place according to the movie storyline. Noir is interesting to watch also, despite its horrendous opening song.

I think a couple of animes are good dubbed. Most are awful. I mean really really awful... like as bad as I thought DBZ, Dragonball, and mostly Cowboy Bebop are really good in English - don't watch the Cartoon Network versions though since they're censored and edited.

 

I personaly didn't like Lain, but that's just me.
I don't really like dubs, even for Bebop, as I miss the dulcetones of Hayashibara Megumi san.
