Say Boltzmann how come you saw what player-X wrote if you're not checking this thread anymore?
I thought someone would ask this :p

I came to the forums tomorrow morning and saw Player-X's last post in this thread. I disregarded the news and jumped to his comments only.I'd to see how much of a mess the thread had become.

And it's quite a mess, if you ask me. There's no way I'll search through these many news to see if I find something interesting to comment on (and I think that this is an issue for many other people too). With separated threads it was a lot easier.

Breasts Betray Cross-Dresser Trying to Pass Moscow University Exam for His Sister

A girl was not admitted to an entry exam at the Moscow State University after it was discovered that she was actually a young man trying to pass the exams for his sister, the Interfax news agency reported on Monday.

The dean of Moscow State University’s Journalism Department, Yasen Zasursky told the agency that on Sunday security staff who checked the contenders for cheat notes paid particular attention to a girl with bright makeup and “especially outstanding feminine features”. A thorough check revealed that the girl was in fact a young man who tried to pose as a girl to pass the exam instead of his sister.

The dean said that security were especially suspicious of the applicant’s breasts that were of “incomparable proportions”. They thought that cheat notes could be hidden inside her clothing. However, it turned out that the breasts were fake.

The young man was barred from the entry exam and his sister was also struck off the university entrant list for cheating.

Astrologist sues Nasa after comet crash
Moscow - A Russian astrologist who says Nasa has altered her horoscope by crashing a spacecraft into a comet is suing the United States space agency for damages of $300-million, local media reported on Monday.

Nasa deliberately crashed its probe, named Deep Impact, into the Tempel 1 comet to unleash a spray of material formed billions of years ago which scientists hope will shed new light on the composition of the solar system.

"It is obvious that elements of the comet's orbit, and correspondingly the ephemeris, will change after the explosion, which interferes with my astrology work and distorts my horoscope," Izvestia daily quoted astrologist Marina Bai as saying in legal documents submitted before Monday's collision.

A spokesperson for a Moscow district court said initial preparations for the case were under way but could not say when the hearing would begin.

Nasa representatives in Moscow were unavailable for comment.
People will sue anyone for any reason for money

Actually, it`s just ignorance that`s strong. Anti-intellectualism is just a side effect/a consequence of the first. And it`s not just in our times, it was like this in the past too.
Not all the past, during ancient greece it wasnt just to name one.

And it's quite a mess, if you ask me. There's no way I'll search through these many news to see if I find something interesting to comment on (and I think that this is an issue for many other people too). With separated threads it was a lot easier.
THe admins have completed their evil work, they have done what even George Bush himself and his minions couldnt do! They have turned people away from the news!

I think the weird news section would be best. Maybe even a warning before you enter it, like the pcsx2 forum rules.
Ugh, that last one really makes me frown at humanity.
I know what you mean. Maybe tomorrow I can sue somebody on the street when he walks near me for blocking Neptune`s ray or something.
I think astrology isn`t much of a science, but more of a religion.
Not all the past, during ancient greece it wasnt just to name one.
I guess you`re right. Well, most of the time then.
That's all I have to say to that. :p
^_^ That`s just funny. True, but in a funny way...

A (phony) penny for his thoughts?

Attorney claims Secret Service 'illegally seized' suspect's thoughts in counterfeiting confession

Tuesday, July 05, 2005

By Torsten Ove, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

As counterfeiting capers go, this one was not particularly noteworthy.

A group of young people got together, made about 227 fake $20 bills, spent them around town and got indicted by a federal grand jury.

But then one of the conspirators' lawyers raised this routine federal case out of the ordinary with a unique legal argument: The U.S. Secret Service had "illegally seized" his client's thoughts when he confessed.

That was what attorney Mark A. Sindler had been prepared to argue Friday in U.S. District Court on behalf of his client, Angelo Armenti, 24, of Millvale.

The prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan Conway, said in court papers he looked forward to the debate.

But it didn't happen. Instead of appearing at a suppression hearing, Armenti decided to plead guilty to passing a counterfeit $20 at the Family Dollar in Millvale last year.

Sindler said it was Armenti's decision to plead and cooperate with agents investigating the others indicted with him.

But the lawyer said he plans to use his legal strategy again the next time he has a client who confesses under similar circumstances.

In pretrial motions, Sindler said Secret Service agents Keith Heckman and Benjamin Full approached Armenti on Nov. 16 at ARC House, a halfway house on the North Side where Armenti was serving a sentence.

The agents asked him to sign a form waiving his rights, after which he wrote out a statement incriminating himself. It wasn't a Miranda warning because Armenti wasn't charged, but another form used in what Sindler called a "custodial interrogation."

Armenti wasn't under arrest, but he also wasn't free to go anywhere, and Sindler said he couldn't just tell the agents to go away.

Sindler also argued that the statement was obtained under threat because Armenti believed if he didn't cooperate, he would go to jail.

Under the Fourth Amendment prohibition against unreasonable search and seizure, Sindler said, Armenti's "thoughts and/or verbal communications were illegally seized."

Taking the written confession, he said, amounted to the agents stealing Armenti's thoughts.

"What area anywhere is more private or out of bounds to others," wrote Sindler, "than the inner sanctum containing a person's thoughts, ideas or considerations?"

Conway countered in court papers that the confession at ARC House was not coerced in any way.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," he wrote. In fact, he said, the interview was "amicable, even friendly."

Either way, the debate over stolen thoughts will have to wait until another day.

Armenti, a drug addict who works for a painting company, will be sentenced in October. He could receive up to five years in prison but probably will get probation.

Mankato man seriously injured by suspected illegal fireworks

MANKATO, Minn. - A Mankato man was seriously injured when what police suspect were illegal fireworks ignited in his basement.

The 41-year-old man's wife called for help about 1:45 a.m. Saturday after the fireworks exploded near her husband, Blue Earth County Deputy John Park said.

The fireworks were not legal for unlicensed use in Minnesota, Park said.

The man was taken to Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato and later transferred to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where he was listed in serious condition.

Park said the explosion injured the man's eye and did serious damage to three or four fingers on his hand, and that it was likely he would lose one or more fingers.

The Minneapolis bomb and arson squad was called and assisted with a search warrant that was executed at the house. The deputy said help was needed because he did not have experience handling the types of explosives that were in the basement.

Revenge plot misidentifies local man as sexual predator
ONTARIO - A 32-year-old man appears to have been the target of a revenge plot after someone mailed letters to his neighbors and his employer that inaccurately identified him as a sexual predator. The victim notified Ontario Police on Wednesday after his employer got one of the fliers, said Ontario Police Detective David McBride.

Investigators are searching for the person or persons who mailed several letters to residents in a northwest Ontario neighborhood that identified a male resident as a sexual predator.

The victim, whose name was withheld for his protection, was identified in the letter by his name, address, business, telephone number, Social Security number and date of birth. He is not a registered sex offender, nor is he being investigated by the police, McBride said.

The letter also listed the man’s employer’s address and phone number, McBride said.

The letter went into graphic sexual detail about claims the victim was wanted in Mexico for lewd conduct with a child indecent exposure and attempted rape of a cow.

‘‘So far it sounds like there’s 18 or 20 of these that went out,’’ McBride said.

Investigators also believe some of the letters were mailed last month.

The letter also said the mailer had notified surrounding schools but investigators have not found that to be true, McBride said.

In addition to the claims, the mailer also used letterhead with a forged version of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department seal.

Investigators believe the mailer or mailers has a personal vendetta against the victim, but so far police have no suspects.

Police agencies will notify residents if a High Risk or Sexually Violent offender moves into an area. But such official notifications will not list personal identification information other than a name, date of birth and physical description. An official notification will also include a real law enforcement seal.

Cycle-mania grips London

LONDON (Reuters) - London's streets creaked and rattled with nervous new cyclists Friday after bicycle sales rocketed in the wake of bomb blasts on three underground trains and a double-decker bus.
Seasoned cyclists told of weary walkers offering them up to 300 pounds ($500) for their bikes as they headed home on Thursday, and of giving impromptu lessons to shaky beginners.

Tim Davies who manages Cycle Surgery near Holborn, said: "the shop is so close to where the bus got hit that we thought we'd be evacuated.

"But by 11 o'clock we were running around like crazy. We'd normally sell five to 10 bikes a day, but we sold at least double that in a few hours.

"We had people who hadn't ridden for over 10 years asking for refresher lessons -- we even had a judge."

Others, who had walked home, dug long-forgotten bikes from sheds and garages for Friday morning's commute. Fernando Gandioli said he noticed "a lot of rusty bikes and squeaky chains" as he cycled in to work at accountancy firm KPMG.

Shop assistant Maja, who works at Evans Cycles near Clerkenwell, said they had sold triple the usual number of bicycles Thursday, mainly folding bikes or cheaper models.

"It was mainly workers and executives," she said. "People who didn't want to waste money on a hotel and said: 'sod it, I'll buy a bike.'"

Mystery 'sex change' has curious flocking to Myanmar monk-to-be

Mystery 'sex change' has curious flocking to Myanmar monk-to-be

HLAING THAR YAR, Myanmar (AFP) - Thin Sandar, a chicken seller in Myanmar, had always dreamed of being a man. When she inexplicably grew a penis last month, the 21-year-old treated it as an awe-inspiring omen -- as have the thousands of stunned villagers who have traveled to a pagoda to see him.
"On the morning of the full moon day of June 21, I noticed my thing (sex organ) was not the same as before," Thin Sandar, who now goes by the male name Than Sein, told AFP in an interview at his home.

"And my breasts disappeared," Than Sein added. "So I called out and showed it all to my mom and dad. It was very strange."

Strange enough that he has attracted significant attention in this deeply superstitious country, where the unexplained can quickly be exalted to hold powerful spiritual significance.

People privately concede Than Sein is a hermaphrodite. Several medical experts have examined him, and he awaits test results from the central women's hospital.

But few have come forward with a medical explanation of the transformation as they await an official report by the health ministry, whose experts have also examined Than Sein.

"We can not say right now if she has really undergone a sudden gender change," said a township official who declined to be named, adding that Than Sein's birth certificate shows that he was born a girl.

"It can be confirmed when we receive the report from the health ministry, although some medical checkups have shown her to be a true man," he added.

Hermaphrodites, also known as intersexuals, are often born with ambiguous genitalia, or have both testicular and ovarian tissue in a single person.

Medical doctor Aye Sanda Khaing put it in layman's terms in a local journal: "Her penis appeared at the site of her clitoris," the doctor was quoted as saying.

Regardless of the official findings, local villagers and other curious Myanmar nationals are flocking to the Aung Myay Thar Yar pagoda, in this new satellite township 19 kilometers (12 miles) from Yangon, to see Than Sein for themselves and make donations to him or the temple.

Up to 400 gather at the pagoda each day, often in a courtyard under colorful umbrellas to ward off the sun's rays, waiting for the chance to talk with and touch Than Sein.

"I have never heard of anything like this, so I came to see him," 21-year-old housewife Thandar Win told AFP.

"If I was not married, then I too would want to become a man!"

When word spread of Than Sein's transformation, locals raced to his home to see for themselves. Authorities, sensing a possible security hazard -- and, perhaps, an opportunity -- hastily arranged for him to be moved to the pagoda to accommodate more visitors.

Than Sein appeared comfortable with the sudden attention in the new surroundings. Wearing a checkered longyi, the traditional Myanmar pants commonly worn by men, he sat on a rug in the pagoda's side building, flanked by his parents.

"I was so happy," father Kyaw Htay, 46, said about his son's developments. "I wanted other sons so they could offer themselves as Buddhist monks, but I had only two daughters."

Occasionally Than Sein stepped out to talk with excited visitors, who shook his hand, stroked his arm, and wished him well.

A Myanmar state television crew has already interviewed him and awaits the military junta's permission to air the broadcast nationwide.

As he waits for the final test results, Than Sein said he firmly believed he had been transformed, and would enter the monkhood for a period of time and seek spiritual contemplation and guidance before deciding whether to marry and raise a family.

"Whenever I went to the pagoda I prayed to become a man in my next life," he said, referring to the Buddhist concept of rebirth.

"Now I'm happy because my dream won't have to wait until my next life, it's already come true."

450 Sheep Jump to Their Deaths in Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey - First one sheep jumped to its death. Then stunned Turkish shepherds, who had left the herd to graze while they had breakfast, watched as nearly 1,500 others followed, each leaping off the same cliff, Turkish media reported.

In the end, 450 dead animals lay on top of one another in a billowy white pile, the Aksam newspaper said. Those who jumped later were saved as the pile got higher and the fall more cushioned, Aksam reported.

"There's nothing we can do. They're all wasted," Nevzat Bayhan, a member of one of 26 families whose sheep were grazing together in the herd, was quoted as saying by Aksam.

The estimated loss to families in the town of Gevas, located in Van province in eastern Turkey, tops $100,000, a significant amount of money in a country where average
GDP per head is around $2,700.

"Every family had an average of 20 sheep," Aksam quoted another villager, Abdullah Hazar as saying. "But now only a few families have sheep left. It's going to be hard for us."
Proof that video games are evil. These sheep obviously played too much Lemmings.
