if you ask me, all of the screenshots released so far are mockups.

They did the same thing with the PS2 too. Released pics that looked brilliant. While in reality the Dreamcast could outperform the PS2 graphically.
Same thing will happen here.

I sure hope the dreamcast won't outperform the PS3 :D

Anyway they have showed the demos running this time!, not only screenshots/movies.

Not all buddy. A number of games and engines are running on actual PS3 hardware. You can say that for sure for Unreal Engine, MGS4, DMC4, GT Vision and Mobile Suit and mind you, those are really really awesome.

About the PS2, PS2 games got better and better as developers learnt to properly balance their codes on the multiple processor architecture. Just look at GT4, MGS3, Tekken5, Smackdown's evolution, Silent Hill series and now the upcoming RE4. I really do doubt if the DC would have been able to handle these.

What you're saying is a popular dialogue of 2001-02 period.

i think in certain cases where tile rendering is exploited as well....such as a scene where ur looking at a huge city made up of fully rendered buildings, and ppl...only its all covered by a hand in front of your view -__-"

Having both, I say "nope".
Like Syed said, it depends on which year you look at it. In the beginning DC outperformed it, just look at games like Rayman 2, Evil Twin and other games that have been released on both systems. But I don't think MGS3 would run well on a DC :p

However I don't think PS2 could run a game like Shenmue 2 as well as DC can simply because of the textures. I really like nice textures and sometimes the PS2 can really disappoint me, luckily special effects can cover it up (which happened a lot in God of War).

But let's get this back on topic....

I still want to see everything with my own eyes before I give in to the hype of PS3. I trust it will show beautiful things, but I gotta see it first before I'm convinced it's the next world wonder.

isnt ryuu ga gotoku supposed to be like shenmue2 but on ps2? i hope it works out.

hmmm just saw the supposed specs of the Revolution, might be a little earliy tro count it out just yet, it looks to be pretty decent, slower CPU of course but that doesn't always matter.....

The brains of the console are rumored to be a single dual-threaded IBM "custom" PowerPC 2.5 GHz CPU, with 256 KB L1 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache (L3 cache is rumored). The system will also sport a Physical Processing Chip (PPU) with 32MB of dedicated RAM, while the CPU itself will saddled up next to 512MB of system RAM. The custom ATI GPU solution is rumored to consist of a RN520 600MHz core, backed with 256MB of RAM and "32 parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines." While the output will theoretically be capable of putting out 1080p resolution (higher even, at 2048x1268), Solo says that HD support has not yet been decided (which fits with Nintendo's own comments

If that's true... it's kind of brilliant from Nintendo if they add a PPU!!!!! / I guess this should be in a revolution thread though :D

actually, it does seem powerful... but i dont think that it will be anywhere near ps3.... except for the screen resolution...

well... thats pretty dum_BBB- if you ask me...they are part of the final release.

While in reality the Dreamcast could outperform the PS2 graphically.same thing will happen here
I dont give a damn about what you said. so  no  comment

I guess the only graphics area the DC might beat PS2 is textures ?
I think so. It's the one big area where at times the PS2 falls hopelessly short.
IMO it's worse than the whole "jaggies" thing. That's not such an issue (differs from game to game though; like, Ridge Racer V has horrible jaggies compared to most other games, and in Gradius V I hardly notice anything like that at all)

I guess some of the early ps2 games suffered from sloppy porting. If I'm not mistaken LeMans PC is a PS2 port, and it's absolutely inferior compared to the DC version (which the PS2 one was ported from).
Crazy Taxi was also worse, AFAIK.
As for Shenmue 2... well, it's not on PS2. They'd have had to reduce the textures but they could've improved on lighting and visual effects, I guess. But as a straight port, it would have been dissapointing.
And the thing you were wondering about Shenmue 2, I'm wondering about Sonic Adventure 2.

Just take another look at this picture....

Image

look at the bottom, bottom right and the centre. It looks like there are a few "things" in the foreground of the whole picture... they dont look like they fit into the pic. in fact, they look independant. it looks like someone created those parts after making the picture...what do u think it is?
