Thank about this for awhile guys:

When a brand new game that is the most wanted game is giong to come out, many people dont care how they get it. They just want to play the game, most of them (like people I know) will dowload the game becasue they can, they have already been waiting for months. Most of them will go buy the game after its released, but they orrigional download it beacsue you can play it earlier.
Not single player games like the GTA series. If its single player, there would be no point to going out and buying the game, you arent gaining anything. Your paying $50 unnecessary dollars for a manual and a box. Multiplayer games on the other hand i can see that happening.

Buy the games you want to, to support the companies you like :) Easy as pie :p I don't necesarily put all the blame on one source as they are all at fault. Rockstar (or whoever) should have kept closer eye on who gets their games and should of had some sort of better security for the game. Pirates ... Well what they do is wrong but like we didn't already know that. :p

Ok...a couple things. The N64 games sold for $60 and higher because it cost THEM alot more to make the cartridges. Let me put it to you this way. I'll compare the N64 and the playstation, and the prices of some of todays media. The N64 used a cartridge, which we could arguably say is similar to a jump drive that's being sold today. How much does a 256mb jump drive sell for? About $60-70 last time I checked. The playstation used cd's. How much is a 50 pack of decent cd-rs??? About 20 bucks. Trust me....nintendo charged that much because they had to.

Secondly, I really do believe that if these companies would become less obsessed with making money, that they could make more of it. Look at today's game prices. Brand new games, regardless of system, are $49.99 (cept for GBA, new games are $29.99, usually) I say make brand new games cost 20 bucks. Why? Say Joe Average is at the store one day, and he is trying to decide between Doom 3, Halo 2, HL2, and oh say...Tribes Vengeance. But he only has 100 dollars to spend. He would be able to buy 2 games....MAYBE. (Tax will kill ya) Say all those games were only 20 bucks. He'd be able to buy all 4 with some cash left over. So basically, games should be cheaper, because people would buy MORE if they were. As it is, a person has to chose what to buy, and in the case of alot of people, what to download. Every yells about the evils of piracy....THEY created piracy. THEY drove people to it. Because they were GREEDY. So I say bah humbug to them....they ain't got a right to whine if their crap gets pirated.

I can sign under that you've said Jldnr77 but...piracy will be there anyway, because you;ll always find a guy(s) that would like to downlad game from the net or buy it from his local pirate (about $5 is not $20) :), anyway I think if they lower prices there are gonna be more legal copies sold, and money from that will be bigger than those now :)

To tell you the truth i dont want to buy a game that cost 70$
its to much for me. if it would have cost me 10-15 (like someone mentioned here) i would have bought it.

and stop with the atitude. boo hoo piracy.. how much does a Sony music editing software cost? 300-400$? go buy that..

anyway GAMES/SOFTWARE/MOVIES cost to much! maybe i do live with my parents.. so what? i have money to afford it. but it costs WAY TOO MUCH!

It's the company's fault.
That comment is a little shallow, it is best to back it up with some reason since not all companies are "greedy" per say in degree as others.

BTW for a bit of a history lesson who was the first computer pirate? hehe I can't recall who it would be but someone started this trend somewhere way back.

ok me yah i download games cus i'm 15 and don't have a job my dad dosent care what i play and would buy me the games if he could but we can't afford $50 games and wen i get a pirated game i will play it and if i do get some money like for my b day or chrismas or something i will go buy it. oh and by the way i have bought many games. battlefield 1942, bf road to roam, bf swo wwII, avp2 and avpprimal hunt, the sims 2. and i have like 6 games for my xbox i would have more store bought games if i had the money.

Heh, I just wait until the price drops on games. Wait a few months and you can save 20-50% on buying games. There just aren't any 'must have' games out there I have to have right now...

Wow. This has to be the smartest reply I have heard. What is people's problems with waiting to buy games? I mean lets see. In Canadian funds ... A brand new A+ game would run about 70 or so dollars (PC) now wait about 4 months which is less than half a year and the price will drop to about $40.00 - $30.00 There, you just saved $30.00+ If you wait about 6-8 months you get the games for $20.00! Isn't that great? Now sure you can't brag and say "Yea, I played this game like the day it was out" But hey, you still get to enjoy it, and you get to walk away playing the same game, a little later with $50.00 in your pocket that the other guy spent ;)

Who's smart now?

Or you could download the game illegally, that is not supportive of the developers/publishers and possible be a) arrested b) may end up with some virus on your computer (yes it can happen) or c) being a douche for downloading it (which is unavoidable)

Example: I waited to buy UT2K3 right before (about 4 months) UT2K4 came out. I paid only $19.99 and enjoyed the game to it's fullest potential. Thousands of people were still playing the game and it was a blast. Hell, I still play it.

Anyways enough bable. My point is either buy the game full price (which I do if I think it's worth it) or wait for it to drop in price to what you think is reasonable.

Piracy shouldn't even be an option.

Yeah I snagged UT2K3 for $19.99 as well... It is a fun game.
I am guilty of ROMWhoring, getting ROMs for 'old' systems like the Sega Genesis, Super NES, NES, Arcade, Pinball, etc, but I also own many of the carts and still play arcade games when I can. According to the IDSA it's the 'same thing' as piracy, but it isn't to me... :emb:

It's not all about stealing ...

It's also about drinking, killing, whores, pimps, guns, cars etc ... :p

Maybe the next Grand Theft Auto can include a mission where you blow up a building the houses software pirates? And you can not only demolish the building, smash the warez, but also kill the pirates... :innocent:

ok look at me i play all games pirated and then if i like it i will go buy it (but theres just some games i will go buy)so that i don't waste money on a crapy game if i like the game i buy it if not what sens is there in keeping the pirated copy to and it's not like i distrubute it to everyone. i don't download them i go to lan partys and pull them off other peoples systems. if i had enough money to go buy all the games and new games i want i would go buy them.but i don't have the money. so this is were i'm stuck with.
