Well I don't blame you if you are not paying attention but as an example of so many just today Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio.

The guy is more than a jackass. He is an enabler, he is the defender of that evil side. You deserve a better president and also one day you will have to make a stand, maybe one day he touches one issue that matters to you.

Also this mentality about many sides is troubling. Start by denouncing the Nazis, they should be high priority. Having them parade in your streets should really be of concern.

Empathy doesn't get you anywhere.
This reminds me of teenage boys who falls in love, acts super sweet, gets rejected, then start complaining about how nice guys finish last and the only way to be successful is to be "a big jerk, like Chad".
First people started supporting Bernie (empathy for everyone!), then came the heartbreak, now comes the sulking and nihilism.

Disappointment is normal (RIP Jack Layton), but giving up isn't. People often joke about how the "American spirit" is dead, or worthless. Some silly ideal that no one can live up to.
But honestly, I previously thought you were a pretty good example of it. You mentioned struggles in your early life, but you showed resilience, you showed ingenuity. You built your own life, found your own work, got a home and a life. And since you built that life with a wife and daughter, you also showed empathy.

Seeing you give up, claim there is no solution and simply wait for the void to swallow us all is quite a change.

I can't remember the post verbatim but I promise you it would have been utterly scathing with criticism so potent it would tear paint off the walls.

The tl;dr is:
BLM are police killing racist scum
Antifa are book burning fascist racist scum

They're not that different and to pretend either are the good guys is downright malicious.
Playing victim to avoid criticism and people buy it lol
I remember you discussing with Ahelia about not settling for a partner that doesn't have blue eyes at, one point, so that in itself says more about your "position" than anything else. BLM and Antifa are not the same thing, just like conservatives and neo nazis are not the same thing.

Trumps a jackass, but I don't really see either side as more or less of a problem than the other.

One kid pushes another kid on the playground, the other pushes back a little harder, and repeat. That's all I'm seeing.
One kid pushes one, the other kid pushes back, the kid that pushed first shoots the other kid. This is the difference.

I don't know why people invest time on Vim when you have solutions like Sublime, VSCode... we barely have time to build a project properly, can't see why I am going to spend more time learning something that most people today learn just to say "Hey, I use Vim"

I know nothing about Vim, but I do know people make a LOT of jokes about not knowing how to exit it.

@Thanakil yeah makes you wonder how he has a family and what is he going to teach his kids.

Also we have to remember that his skin is right so it doesn't matter what is going on around as long as he still gets a pass from the group on top.

I feel for Eli. He has been through a lot but that's not a good example.

And Strike liking all those comments makes him look like the jackass he always was. A Trump supporter and apologist since the first discussion we had.

Have to quote this.

I feel the same for Eli and worry.

I admired him because he has been through a lot and has pulled through.

@ElijahTW Please don't give up and be better than your father.
Do it for your family, work to build a better future for them.

There are a lot of reasons to be pissed off or become abrasive (finding out there were people discussing the use of vehicles to run into protesters before it happened certainly made me mad) but the conversation has been mostly polite so far, so I'd try to keep it light. With that said, being harsh doesn't mean your criticism should be ignored.

If you work with old hardware, limited resources, embedded systems, systems without GUI, Vim and Emacs are good options. Both have very good functionalities and can be integrated into almost any environment and any other program. Example:

I know nothing about Vim, but I do know people make a LOT of jokes about not knowing how to exit it.

Yeah... I remember the first time I used visudo (the Vi one), a total mess. In the real world you normally use :quit! not :quit

I've been working from 8am til 9 or 10pm almost every day for the last several weeks running my business. I have very little time to spend with my family. And all I hear is how I'm a horrible rapist white man who has everything so easy because I'm white. Told to me by groups of people who have plenty of time to be involved in weekly protests while I'm working nonstop. The people who shame me for thinking Obamacare is a fucking joke because it has made previously affordable health insurance cost six times what it used to. And since I can't afford that my wife is going without physical therapy for her knee that she needs. But hey - the system allows people who pop out kids they have no ability to support to have great insurance!

And in a system where voting is the only real way to maybe get something done, you're kinda fucked in a two party system where one of the sides rigs the system. Donald Trump is a fucking idiot, but when you think about it, his win is a 100 time more honest way of winning than it would have been if Clinton has won.

So I'm sorry if I don't have the wherewithal to give a shit anymore.

You say you don't give a shit, but you certainly showed you cared in that first paragraph. You were far more passionate about that part than anything else.
Keep in mind, I wasn't criticizing you for not going in the streets and asking for a revolution. If you want to not-care and stay put, that's your freedom being put at work. I was criticizing you for sharing apathy and a defeatist attitude. I consider there's a difference between "this isn't my fight" and "everyone should give up".

Yeah let's believe Trump is going to drain the swamp, his win was honest (with Russian bots).
Goes to appoint wall street and exxon executives to the highest ranking positions in the government.

And you have a very thin skin if you believe what they say about you because you're white.

But let's not forget that your president labels Mexicans drug dealers and thieves, Chinese as hoaxers and so on.

@Thanakil I go a bit further with the critique, I don't like that he still thinks that we are better than with Obama or better than we would be with Clinton.

With a president like Trump is so unbelievable to think that one would still choose him over Clinton TODAY.

The guy is a fucking joke trying to dismantle every last bit of progress Obama has made.
Obama left him a great economy (I think Eli made some progress during those years) but all Trump cares about is crowd sizes and being in peace with the Russians.

It's okay to stay out of this conversation but defending Trump with all the information out there and how he behaves is delusional.

I can't wait for the impeachment. The guy is tired and doesn't want the job. We are almost in September 2017 (election in NOVEMBER 2016) and the guy is still holding rallies to appease his ego. How sick of mind can you be to still be doing that.

Regarding limited resources yeah it's ok, but if you work with front end development and graphics, chances are that you work in a multitask graphical environment (either you're on Windows, Mac or even a desktop Linux distro).

I am not saying no one should use it or that Vim is bad, it's just that it doesn't make sense when people use it just to say that they are oldschoolers or that they're above everyone else because they use a "hardcore" editor...
