NGEmu is now officially in the top 500! Congratulations everyone! :thumb:

I've been out of the loop for a bit and just noticed the SMP2 client (thanks masta.g.86 :)). I just replaced the old version, hopefully it grabs one of the new WUs in a couple of hours.

Edit: It finally grabbed one of the super new WUs and fired up the a3 core. It's up to 7615 PPD now :).

RAEG

i have 4 completed cores waiting to submit. Bloody phone company >.<

How do you actually post online Squall? You evolved into some species with natural net connection?

Just FYI for anyone folding with the SMP A3 core, setting it to use one less core than the total amount can improve performance, especially with a GPU client running simultaneously or other usage on the PC (web browsing, gaming, etc.). I did some testing today with the GPU and SMP clients running normally (SMP using 8 threads), and forcing the SMP client to 7 threads by changing the switch to -smp 7.

GPU WU: Project: 5746 (Run 3, Clone 19, Gen 1064)
SMP WU: Project: 6012 (Run 0, Clone 196, Gen 150)

GPU/SMP regular

GPU: 2532 PPD (70-83% GPU usage, occasional dips to 60%)
SMP: 8534 PPD

GPU/SMP -7

GPU: 3351 PPD (96-99% GPU usage)
SMP: 13400 PPD

Apparently the issue is the current A3 core needs some extra CPU for thread synchronization and max load drops throughput non-linearly. The next version should fix it somewhat.

My next project will be setting up a Linux VM and trying SMP WUs with the -bigadv switch. It seems to generate a LOT of points (20k+) but also uses a ton of RAM.

Edit: Got the VM set up. It's churning out about 24k PPD :).

The VM seems to be working wonders with my points so far, I'm getting pretty close to D.D. Unfortunately I've been getting a couple of hardware-related bluescreens this week so I'm doing some testing right now (I'm thinking it's the video card). Hopefully I can get it running stably again soon :).

Small update for anyone that was folding bigadv units on Linux, they've been disabled for now due to stability issues. It's been enabled for the Windows SMP version though. Info here.

One thing to note about configuring it to spare one core for other uses (eg. smp -7 for Bloomfield i7s, -11 for Gulftown, etc.), is that apparently setting it to use an amount of cores that is a prime number can cause issues. Also, they highly recommend having 8 physical cores, so 4-core i7 users will have to be overclocked quite a bit to make the deadlines. The client checks for the amount of cores and won't assign bigadv work to a CPU with less than 8 cores. It doesn't distinguish between physical and logical cores, hence why i7 users are able to download and run them.

For now I have mine set to use 8 threads, which means it chokes off the GPU client quite a bit. The loss in PPD on the SMP client was more than the GPU client's output on my 4870, so I'm just SMP folding for now on my i7.

The Linux bigadv units were usually in the low 20k range for PPD on my machine, regular Linux SMP units were 8-13k. My current Windows bigadv unit is running at a hair over 29k PPD.

The nice thing about the current setup is it's no longer using 5+ GB RAM with the VM and Windows running together, so I no longer need to upgrade to 12 GB RAM :p.

ok i can get back into the fray now that i have a machine to myself again. i was kinda stuck using a linux live cd on a pc without a harddrive buit sence my mom upgraded to a windows 7 box i got her old box till a couple of months after we move when ill have the money for that new pc i need. my brother will be getting this old pc after that so his friends have something to mess around on. ill be moving some of my stuff from my other harddrive onto here so i can use it but once i get the new pc ill put the stuff i need back onto the 250 gig harddrive and put that into the new windows 7 machine ill have which should have a 500 gig harddrive im hoping. so i can wipe the windows xp harddrive and mabe have it for bakups of critical files and the os if it fits. ill be folding with my gts 250 till then by that time i may have a new graphics card if i do ill keep my gts 250 in this pc for my brother.

sence i have no reason to turn my pc off at night ill just let FAH go 24/7 unless im playing a game then ill pause it till im done playing the game then start it back up. so i should be going down in ranks quickly hopefully

Edit: currently sitting at rank 22 and going up in rank quickly so i should be able to break the top 20 here int he next couple of days hopefully.

lets see what i cna do with both the cpu and gpu clients going at the same time ont his single core amd athlon 64bit 3500+ running a gts250

currently sitting at rank 20 now with 2 clients going my gpu client and adualcore pentium running a linux live cd is providing me with even more points lol that pc has no harddrive so im stuck using the live cd and i dont have a thumbdrive either so im stuck using the live cd hey it works so why not right?
