But by that logic the Gamecube should have outsold the playstation 2 and the XBOX. The Gamecube was always cheaper, it games were affordable, and there were even games such as Zelda Wind Waker that came freely bundled with the system, and in a show of Irony it's successor is selling like hotcakes even though other than a fancy controller, it has little to offer above the Gamecube. IIRC the Wii has already outsold the number of Gamecubes sold over its entire lifspan, can someone verify this?
You are totally missing the point.... It's not like the difference between prices on gamecube and PS2 were too great. Now .. If you look back... Here in my country for example.. A Saturn game costed around 60 bucks. A N64 game costed around 150 bucks. The difference between Gamecube and PS2 didn't go as far as that.

I remember I grabbed a Saturn game for 20 bucks in the time it was bustling. Games were cheap. And Brazil was one place among just other few where Sega Saturn didn't failed. Sega were always strong in brazilian gaming market, they had companies in here, etc. And Playstation 1 was something that I simply couldn't understand. Sony Computer Entertaiment just opened a factory here in Brazil recently... In the times of PS1 there were none. Despite all that PS1 was the cheapest, with more volume of games, the revolutionary games were made in PS1 system, etc. God bless IDT and the MIPS R3000 CPU.

My point was the Gamecube was always at least $50 cheaper than the PS2, and the Gamecube offered a free game for the system at many times. The price in the games may not have differed greatly, but the Gamecube was a cheaper console, and yet the PS2 beat it and the Game Cube didn't sell very well, then the Wii sells like hotcakes, more than the Gamecube, and yet it isn't much of a better system than the Wii.

What does that tell you?

It tells that.. The weird Wii controller, sorry I don't know the name, is a huge success among the newer generation of gamers. There's no other explanation. Not only between the new gen, I have seen some old school guys bending over to Wii. Personally, I don't like it, but it is a success.

The PS2 had a plethora of good games available while the GC didn't.

The Wii appeals to a wider audience. Many non-gamers try Wii Sports and have a "ZOMFG!!!!!1111" moment and go out and buy one. 2 or 3 months later, it's just gathering dust.

Comparing the Wii vs GC is like apples to oranges. The GC was a "hardcore" gamer console that couldn't keep up with the other consoles of its generation. The Wii is a "casual" gamer console and appeals to a wider audience.

Yes and Yes. Although i have to be honest, Wii Hardware is better than Xbox360 "as Hardware at least", A lot of people suffered from Xbox 360 known issue as Ring of Death(Some of them bought 360 twice) or Temperatures issue and Unrechargeable Controllers + not full online access. I hate Wii though. The weirdest thing to me that is 360 made by Microsoft, BY THE EXPERTS in computing world.

I was put off from buying a PS3 because of the higher initial purchase price and the fact I have a blu-ray drive in my PC.

I bought the 360 I fully confess because of Mass Effect, being a Bioware fanboy as I am. The problem I have with the PS3 is not that it isn't a good console but that it doesn't have the exclusives I want to play and the titles on it I do want are available on other formats.

The other OS mode isn't a selling point to me as I have my desktop and laptop for computing tasks.

On a technical side note is it true that they either have to install data to the PS3s hard drive or repeat data sections on the disc because reading from blu-ray is too slow for gaming? I find that hard to believe myself but my one friend in a pub located booze fuelled console debate swore it is true.

My point was it had nothing to do with the price of the consoles....

Scary thought, I like the PS2 and the Wii although some games that are on both I prefer on the PS2...

In this case it had nothing to do with the price, because there weren't any consoles that could keep up against PS2. Do you think PS3 is going to overcome other consoles right now, with those prices ??? Not only the prices are high, but you don't see great titles being released in PS3 at the same pace it was in PS1 or PS2.

If I'm not mistaken, Nintendo DS sells more than PS3. A Handheld videogame. The consoles are in a very poor situation, we have Nintendo Wii leading the consoles. Do you realize how poor this situation is ?? We have consoles today like XBOX 360, full of bugs, full of bricks inside, the stupid slow and expensive PS3, and the glorious and revolutionary Nintendo Wii.... Heck... Bad times. I have seen much better times for consoles.

No wonder you see this days classic console companies like Capcom, Square-Enix, etc, releasing games for PC. 10 years ago who would have guessed that Street Fighter would be released on PC ? A former arcade game.

And how could Game Cube possibly surpass the PS2 with a few games ? It doesn't cut to be a cheap console, it need games. And Game Cube had a few only. That's why I insist that PS1 ages where the golden ages for consoles. PS1 was the console that gathered together cheap prices, great quantity of games and great quality in games. Of course it had it's shiitty games, but every console has it's bad games and PS1 variety of games were huge, so it's just natural it had a lot of good games but also a lot of bad games. The important thing is, it HAD a lot of good games.

If I start a list of great games on PS1 it'll take hours, so I'm not gonna do that.

I haven't lost hope on PS3 yet, I just hope things start to get better for it and pretty soon. If I had to bet in one of those 3 new gen consoles, on the long run, I'd bet on PS3. I don't have faith in 360 neither on Wii. Luckily, we can always count on PC.

I gotta hand it to S-E. They sure know how to take advantage of their fan(tards)boys.

Costing typically $50-$75USD for a crappy movie. (but hey its got the FFXIII demo!) Little wonder that it's doing well.

I find more and more often that I can't rely on Japan to determine whether or not a game is "good". Both FFX and FFXII were "hits" in Japan, but elsewhere it was pretty divided. Then there's people like me who are still waiting for a "good" post PS1 era FF game .

Better how? There's nothing wrong with it as is.
Just something... When Square Enix decides to release the next Dragon Quest game for a handheld and not for a console, there must be something wrong. How old is the PS3 ? Now make a list of the great titles so far, and compare the numbers of great titles on PS1 at the same time.

PS3 was released on november 17, 2006. It has almost 3 years of existence. How many great titles ???

Now take the first three years from PS1 and compare. PS3 is damn slow. It's a fact.

That doesn't mean anything. Games back then took a lot less time to make.
