Is tere anyway to benchmark a game and find out what is it's native resolution when it's running?
Is that the case for every game? And why do NTSC games seem wider?PS2 outputs at 480i for NTSC and 576i for PAL.
So unless stated otherwise (menu option for progressive or widescreen) games are at least 480i and 576i? But none of this resolutions are 4:3 would that mean they're stretched into the screen? All PS2 games support 480i or 576i (depends on the region)
Some PS2 games support Progressive scan, therefore 480p and 576p.
Very few games (e.g. GT4) support higher resolutions, but the PS2 itself is capable of outputting up to 1080i.
Sorry you lost me here. What does that mean exactly?Edit:The PS2 GPU internally uses 256x224 to 1280x1024.
Well actually i sometimes use NTSC Games on a PAL console but i guess the same principles apply. If the internal resolution is different from the output resolution, I think the screen is stretched.
So, if you force a PAL game to output to NTSC, the internal resolution stays the same, so you are stretching the image.
How is pan and scan distorted? You only view a different portion of the game but on its correct output. I thought that stretched AR is what's distorted?Edit: If I remember correctly, if you force the output to something different from 480 or 576 the PS2 doesn't stretch, and since some games uses a higher resolution and relay on stretching to make the game look correct, you will get a pan screen and distorted output.
run a game in pcsx2 and use gsdx as GPU plugin, you can find the resolution right in gsdx's title bar.Is tere anyway to benchmark a game and find out what is it's native resolution when it's running?
What do you mean it's not 4:3. IT IS. 480i is 640x480 which is four times 160 and 3 times 160.So unless stated otherwise (menu option for progressive or widescreen) games are at least 480i and 576i? But none of this resolutions are 4:3 would that mean they're stretched into the screen?

Wait, i think 480i and 756i means 720x480 and 720x576 which makes none of these resolution 4:3.What do you mean it's not 4:3. IT IS. 480i is 640x480 which is four times 160 and 3 times 160.
So i tried the emulator and it displayed 640x448 for NTSC and 512x512 for PAL! Isn't that strange?run a game in pcsx2 and use gsdx as GPU plugin, you can find the resolution right in gsdx's title bar.
