wow 48x burning i wonder how fast it would go
i burn a cd in approximately 5 minutes with an LG cd-RW 12x burner
48x would be insane

 

Wow, that would burn at 28.8 MB/s

That's upsetting. You buy a 24x burner and within months, the market has already doubled the speed and you're out-of-date.

mine is a 16x and its more then enough for me

 

mine is yamaha 4x? eyup, it's still freaking alive!

 

Mine is a LG 4x and it's alive too!! But WOW 48x WRITING!!! not even my CDRW can READ at that speed lol

 

mine is... oh right I dont have one, mmm... what is more than sufficent on speed for someone that may will burn cds but not so much?

 

48X wow!! But you dont really need that much speed, do you? I only burn at 2X for quality reasons.

Firstly a buffer underrun (a coaster lol always liked the name) is less unprobable of happening w/ lower speeds and that quality thing is audio related i think...Correct me on this pls!!

 

That's quite correct. Unless you have a buffer underun technology in the drive that is. Although that said for audio cds nothing beats having a large buffer (my flatmate has a 16mb buffer in his drive the jammy sod).

 

My 4x Panasonic CD-R (thats right not CD-RW ) is the best. It seems too early to have that fast a burner. Do they even have 48x CD-Rs yet? If my math is right it will take 25 seconds to burn 700MB!!!

 

snakes right, ive never even seen a 48x cdr before. the highest ive seen was 24x so far and according to my calculations it would take 24.305 sec to burn a 700mb file

On my previous 40X CD-ROM I could image an entire 700 MB CD in under 5 minutes. Copying data from within the drive took a really long time though, probably because it's reading and writing at once (well, consecutively but you know what I mean). Most modern hard drives can transfer data up to 66 MB/s (ATA66), although it usually performs around 30 MB/s.

Even so, with a speed of 48X it would have to have buffer underrun protection, otherwise it would almost always coaster.

 

I really like the quality of Yamaha products...!...they live quite long with stable Performance!
