I haven't gotten very far into Xenogears, but in the beginning after the first cutscene, and when you return from Citan's place, the screen goes black and I can only see the screen flashing in red and black. The dialogues are working fine, and I can continue the game, don't get me wrong on that, but I want to know why it happens. Another thing is that I can see small strips of what I think is supposed to be the real picture in the bottom-right corner, but it's very little.

I have tried turning up off-screen drawing to the max, but it isn't working. Here are my computer specs.

Geforce 3 (go ahead, laugh at me >_>)
AMD Athlon (tm) XP 1900+
1,60 GHz, 512 MB RAM
Windows XP

That's what I have on the top of my head. I use Pete's OpenGL Plugin 1.76 Thanks in advance for any help.

Post your GPU settings, we don't have the power to guess them.
Also, you may want to try the OGL2 plugin, much more compatible, your GF3 should work with if you don't overdo it on the quality settings. (it worked with my GF4MX, which is lots worse than a GF3).

happens with me also, although its not a problem because it goes back to normal when you enter the battle where fei is in weltall, also happens a bit after that in the yggdraisl or however you spell it :p

i use epsxe on a 400mhz, 256ram, 128mb graphics card computer most of the time, and apart from those black/red screens, it works fine, runs faster on 1.5.1 (probably 1.5.2 also but i havent got that) rather than 1.6

400mhz only? Using a 128mb gxf card on it is pretty pointless IMO, the CPU is almost slower than the graphic card alone, it's overkill

Are you playing from an iso or from real cd?
Can you post an image of the "small strips problem"?

Oh I see, it's fine then, you got it for free, it's not like if you bought it for nothing ^^

i had the same problems with all GFX plugins if you still can control the character try rotating the camera might help.If it suddently crash in cutscene just copy saved mem card put it in other emulator and saved it if you have the chance than just load it back on any ps1 emulator you like.

I can't tell what sequence it is from this screen, but if it's supposed to have screen distortions or such (heatwave or swirl effects for example) you can try tweaking framebuffer settings. If it still doesn't work, try with OGL2 or Software plugins. And if it still doesn't work, your problem prolly comes from corrupt ISO/broken CD
