The BG saga is as good as PT, the only drawback is that it doesn't feature as much interactivity as PT... which isn't a sin, since PT was a masterpiece unique on its kind... BG is a superb saga that every AD&D RPG based fan should try...

Same goes for IWD.

hell, any gamer should at least try one of these games. you're gaming experience isnt complete without trying them.

I went with Neverwinter Nights, but it was a tough choice between it and Icewind Dale 2 which is also a very good game.
As for Planescape Torment, I just couldn't get into it at all and I couldn't stand Baulder's Gate 1 at all. I have never tried Baulder's Gate 2, I'm afraid it will be to much like BG 1 and Icewind Dale 1 was, to me, just plain yucky.
The only Baulder's Gate game that I have found that I enjoy is Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2. Now that is a GOOD game.

PT has one of the best story-line game IMO, and it involves much more " talking " then the BG saga.
But i prefer action , so i prefer BGs over PT ;)

PT does take a little time to get into, thats for sure. the first time i played it i couldn't get into it at all.

but, sx, how come you liked icewind dale 2 but not 1? (i haven't played IWD2, is it that much different?)

Well its gameplay is significantly faster, plus it uses the 3rd AD&D rules... the graphics are also much better than the ones of the first game.

PT indeed takes a lot of time to get into it, but it's well worth it... it's the only RPG where you have plenty of ways of dealing with the same situation. As I said, up to this date when it comes to AD&D based RPGs, PT may be the best one out there...

For me it came down between Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate II. For me I like the more sidequests and more overall immersiveness of Baldur's Gate II... so for me BG2 gets the nod, just a fraction above PT

Same here, plus BGII feature an extense library of mods that can easily extends it gamelife in case you get bored with the game and its expansion...

It's like everything, it has its pro and its cons... I like some of the additions (like the feats) but on the other hand the kits are banished which means no more Kensai, Assasin or Jester... and those are my 3 favorite kits ;)

feats made the game a little too easy though. i really need to loosen the pocket strings and pick up IWD2 and NWN.

Greetings,

IMO feats add a new depth to D&D characters (I'm also a player of the real D&D). Overall the 3rd edition rules are better than the previous versions.
And if you like multiplayer games you really should get NWN. It's the best one that I've played so far (though I still didn't find it so addictive as Diablo II).

D2 is addictive simply because it takes a long time to get to lvl99 and it takes a long time to get the items you want. i just hope i get a little re-addicted to it once the patch comes out.

Greetings,

Even though I was heavily addicted to D2, I never had the patience to reach lv.99. My personal record is 76, with the Assassin (and 74 with the Necromancer).
And now I'm angry because of this new patch. I lent my D2 to a friend and he simply disappeared with my game. I must get it again before the patch comes out :)

i'm not too sure lvl 99 is realistic in solo play (which is what i play), at least not in an amount of time prior to throwing the game out the window.

it depends on how your playing it really. if you're only playing by yourself, then ya, you have to be pretty bored to play it until the high levels. but if you're playing with other people that you know, then (like many games) it lasts longer. multiplayer is definetly the way to go, but not all games do it well.

From the options in the poll .. BG2 defintly . best rpg i ever played :) 2nd runner would be Fallout 2 if it was there , 3rd for anachronox .
