VirtualPSP [PSP emulator for x86]

Hi folks,

I have been working on this for ages, and maybe you guys would like to know what's going on.

I am working on a PSP Emulator for the PC (32bit currently), called VirtualPSP. It is a fully working PSP, but now on your PC. It does read the dumped flash (like devhook) and emulates it. (I'm not gonna post all the technical details here, because only 1% will understand what i mean lol). Here are the first screenshots of me playing my dumped ISO of Daxter.

As you see it is working, but it runs very slow. Maybe it is my PC (1.3Ghz/256MB RAM), but i'll try to fix this and let some people try.

Online play (infrastructure) will be available too, all connecting Peer to Peer. (My server will function as a main host). I need some time to get this fully working though. I can connect to my LAN pc's, but it freezes when the game's loading. I'll try to fix this anyway.
Maybe i can add Ad-hoc function through the internet? (Like KAI)

And no, i'm not gonna release this *yet*. It can take a while, but if i need some testers, i'll PM you.

I would like to recieve some feedback of my work.

~S!ms
Fake? Who knows, I hope to see at least a public version soon. Also there are some screenshots that you can see in the attached thumbnails ;)

well assuming its not fake I would definitely enjoy seeing this come out soon. btw it dosent look so slow to me. I looked at your link. This seems very fishy to me.

Personally, I'll be extremely upset if this is real and loads commerical games... This is a fairly new system, and I'd hate to see it go the way of the Dreamcast....Hopefully the author will block out commerical games from being run, only allowing homebrew (which is helpful for devs w/o a psp)....

And how is 30 fps slow??? Thats pretty much 1/2 speed... And his processor isn't great...But I noticed sumthing, a consistant 30 fps... weird, most WIP emulators I've played showed more variation amongst speed

No, I don't believe.
Just see nintendo DS: There are A LOT of emulators running commercial games. And the DS is alive, and it is better every day.

If it is a fake, I'm personally interested in how he faked the shots. Through a few quick google image searches, I could fine any matches -- nothing even close.

[crackpot theory]
What if the author doesn't really exist, and the emulator shots were faked on purpose? What if then they tried to stir up conjecture about how such (admittedly) impressive shots were faked, seeing as how they have no visible flaws? It would then become apparent that it was all some viral marketing campaign for some device that would be able to broadcast PSP video to TVs, for real like -- not like the projection methods being used by those other companies. They then wind up selling a million units upon launch, and every comsumer with PSP can now play Daxter on a big screen and realize, "Hey, this doesn't look as great blown up to twenty times the screen size." Nobody buys their devices anymore, and the company goes down in flames. After that incident, S!ms comes out as an employee of the company, and claims that he was made to look like an ass by his higher ups, just so they can move product. The company is then shamed further, and the CEO winds up hanging himself in their former offices days before they were scheduled to move out.

And that, my friends, is why this emulator is a fake.

I can get those high quality pictures too... Its called Devhook Screen Capture.... In fact, I can get High Quality videos of gameplay too (http://pspupdates.qj.net/DevHook-Screen-Video-Capture-Module-now-with-SVCPlayer/pg/49/aid/68725)

Its easy to fake pics.....

But if this is real (which I'm hoping against) it WILL hurt the scene....DS emulation isn't the greatest at this point (Give me an emulator that can play Castlevania, Super Mario DS, and Meteos--- Thats actually PLAYABLE)... If this is true, EVERY single PSP game can be played... Meaning tons of non PSP users will go out, find the firmware dumps, and then download their isos (like 9/10 of PCSX2 users).... Geez....

well unless his FPS counter is broken, id say its fake, the fact it never changes and he thinks he can get 30fps on an emu for that console (especially an early WIP one) with the system he has, hed have to be dreaming.

oh and notice how Daxter has no graphical faults?

also one guy, on his own has achieved all this in the short time the PSP has been out? i find that very unlikely.

of course there is always a chance a psp emulator is made, so if it is real, hats off to him, but at the moment im very skeptical

Clearly a fake judging by the way he posts :p He is easy to read.

omg 1st when I start reading this I was like oO oO oO then "fake" came into my mind, I hope I'm so wrong tho haha. Like every1 else, too good to be true. :dead:

30 fps is too fast for that but he meantioned it was like showing 3 times faster so maybe around 10 fps in reality, that I could like "maybe" buy but certainly not any higher speed than that lol. I don't care about the fps counter itself tho at least as "Gekko" NGC emu also showed a way too high fps rate and fraps showed like 3 - 5x slower fps rate when I tried Ikaruga.

One person achieving this in such relatively short time using Java is a bit difficult to buy tho.

Although there is a slight possibility that this could be true, I'd think that another game would be shown first, such as Lumines or a 2d fighter at first. Daxter would be hard to emulate I'd imagine, especially without any graphical issues. Heck, Daxter even lags some times on the real psp, so emulating it would be a fairly hard task. It just doesn't make sense, all of the graphics are so crisp for such a beautiful game. I've played Daxter enough to see that the graphics are exactly like they are on an actual psp, so a screen capture would make specific device.

However, I'd rather this not be real anyways, as I already see enough people whining for ISOs already. Imagine how many people will come around asking for ISOs if this was real? It would only hurt the PSP's sales as well, especially as it isn't doing as well as the DS (sales wise....potential wise and game wise, I feel PSP beats DS easily).

Not me, I own a PSP:p.

I however would say that I would like to see an emulator of the PSP, but not for like another year. This could very well be a fake, but then again it may not. It could very well be possible for "One without a Life" To spend hours a day all day long, with a few or more hours sleep coding and tweaking a psp emulator so he can gain publicity. But however, I will judge for myself as soon as I see an official release. It would be real handy to use to try new homebrew if you have a small memory stick like I do;)

oO oO .Ok psp hardware is ps2 based, isn't it???
Even If it's a little less complex than Ps2 ,I don't think this guy could have made it.No doubt it's a big fake for me.Fortunately all photoshop (or Gimp) users are not liers like this guy....However gonna post soon shots of my X360 emulator...:D

the psp is a R4000 based chip, so altho not as quick as the PS2, due to the higher clockspeed, it makes up for some of what its lacking in raw power, but its certainly closer to the PS2 in requirements for emulation than the PS1 is

Oh, the program is written in java, so i don't know any **** of Cpp anyway.
And that, my friends, is the flame that lit the proverbial stick of dynamite the community hath collectively lodged in his ass.
