It might have to do with the sound more than the graphics, as I see nothing weird there. What sound plugin and settings?

Okay. I tried a game with similar settings and it ran fine..Let's get some more details. What game are you trying to play, and what are your PC specs?

I know you said a dual core "trick", what was that? The dual core optimizer? Or setting affinity?

Try installing the http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/DCO_1.1.4.zip if you haven't already, as well as opening task manager and right clicking EPSXE.exe, Set Affinity, and make it set to core 0 or core 1[just one, and will have to be done every time if you try this].

Maybe try Eternal SPU. or try EPSXE 1.7's built in sound plugin. It's quite good.

Eternal can be used with either one. But 1.7 is generally better in most areas[note that disk swapping is busted in 1.7, so you'll have to use 1.6 to swap disks, or a virtual drive like Daemon Tools].
