I dont see HOW their not geting arrested where their runing around spreading their messages.. or where the money for it comes from. oO what do u guys think of these commercials

I despise all those smoking commercials etc ... Government of Canada is really getting bad too. Some of them make me sick. It is Spam from your television IMO. I wish they would stop it. Okay we get it already, Smoking is bad ...

It's printed on the package. People know it kills them. It's addictive, and it's in a lot of people's blood (no their fault) from parents, grandparents ect. ect. It's gross, yeah, but it's obviously not illegal, and it'll probably help a few people from trying it. If it prevents people from starting, I'm all for it. Most of my family unfortunatly do (smoke), but luckily my sister and I do not. It's obvious that after a short while people start coughing more ect. ect. and the effects are quite obvious, so if this prevents even one person from trying it, then keep 'em coming.

If someone wants to start usually they will. If the think a commercial will make evryone stop or never begin they are wrong. They are making an effort but if they know anything about how people think they would know that it is a waste of money. Like netghost said. ;)

I voted yes, because I believe that the commercials are privately funded, however I'd be against them if they are funded with tax money.

In fact I think they're some of the best commercials on TV :D

Well the Government ones are funded by taxpayers. And if you think about the other ones ... We pay for cable/satelite and really we are paying for the advertisements and commercials we see. It's like a circle of life (only replace life with money) :p

If the commercials have a postitive affect on the population, that is people stop smoking, How can it possibly be bad? Personaly, i think the money from the commercials can be put to better use, but if its workin...

How can it possibly be bad?
because people have to make the choice themselfs to stop smoking, or not to, or to. hell i dont smoke, he reason behind it is because iv inhaled so much of it second hand i guse that would make up for it (my roomates like to smoke inside the living room area.)

Im kindof wondering if anyone seen their public displays.. where do they do those? New york?

>>How can it possibly be bad?

Well for those of us who dopn't smoke or are eating a meal by the tv and see something like on those commercials, it is disrespectful towards us.

thats IF their having a positive affect. I think alot of people might feel like me and razor. well the majority of us that dont smoke anyway, i mean c'mon. why force people to see what they believe is the truth to those who already dont give a crap.

I think these commercials are more disturbing to others than truth. besides, we only have their word on it that what their saying is actual fact. whos to say it is and whos to say it isnt

I don't care for them. I don't smoke. If someone wants to smoke, let them... just not near anyone who doesn't. If someone judges that something like Di-Hydrogen Oxide is dangerous to my health, I won't stop taking it (It is, btw...). If someone decides that a McDonalds hamburger is detrimental to my health and starts all sorts of ad campaigns, I would be similarly annoyed. Yes, post a warning. No, don't scream it in my ear. (I voted bad)

ya know... normally I would agree that it's a waste of $$$

but, being a smoker for the past 8 years, I gotta say that whenever I see one of those ad's... it really does make me think twice about it. It's not the same old lame ad's you see from the cigarette manufacturers... they actually have some very valid points :thumb:

man... I so want to quit... but it's so damn hard to. Cigarettes are evil....

BTW, NY just passed a law recently banning people from smoking in public (bars, resturants, ect...) and that makes it a heck of alot easier not smoking when I go out... but on the other hand, alot of places are going broke and shutting down because alot of their buisness isn't there anymore. Why go out when you can sit at home drinking with friends and SMOKE?

#17 ·
Yup same with Alberta. It is pretty much almost illegal to smoke anywhere these days. :p No restauran ts and few Bars let people smoke. They are trying to make it a total public things not letting people smoke outside their homes.

Anyways Me and Raiden have valid poijnts, and so do some of you guys IMO. I know McDonalds isn't good for me. It is fatening and for the amount I eat it is probably doing crap to me on the inside. But I am not gonna quit. :p For some people it could be an easy choice, But a commercial is not going to make people just stop and quit. Not everyone has the will power to do so anyways.

I agree with the banning of smoking in public places because smoke there affects the health of people who have made the decision not to smoke. If people want to smoke in private then that's their perogative.

too bad it hurts the local economy the way it does though :\ kind of sucks, but then again... people are starting to get used to it, or so it seems. The last few times I went out drinking I seen quite a few more people out and about... more so than right after the law was passed atleast

#20 ·
Maybe the law could just limit the public usage to during daylight hours or something that might be a profitable compromise :)

#21 ·
Maybe that more people aren't smoking theyll either get fat from eating so much or drink and drive. :) (I am being 100% sarcastic guys) :p

I don't care if people smoke. As long as it isn't affecting me or people that don't want to inhale it. I think parents should have respect for the lives of their children. My Dad smokes but he always asks me if he can light on up if I am in the car with him at the time and never smokes in the house. I have friends though who's parents don't care. It's pretty sad.
