Sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz and feature 2.18 teraflops of performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz, a detachable 2.5 inch HDD slot, six usb 2.0 ports, Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, a compact flash memory slot, Compact flash slot, 2 hdmi outputs, 1 av multi out, 1 SPDIF optical output, and 1-gigabit Ethernet built in port
It seems the PS3 edges out the Xbox 360 in terms of specs.

Looks like I'm gonna stop upgrading my computer for a new PS3. ;) Blue Ray support is a nice advantage over the Xbox360. Especially with HD video which will definately need the 16 gigabytes of data capacity. The ability to hardware decode 12 High Definition Videos at one time is amazing. Current computer's struggle with 1 or 2. Looks like both systems will be extremely powerful. It's gonna be down to software support.

The Nvidia GPU in the system is supposedly more powerful than 2x6800ultra's in SLI. We still don't know a lot of the technical details, but what I have gathered so far is that the GPU has a 35 gigabyte data bus to and from main system ram to gpu ram. That's more bandwidth than most video card ram in current video cards. And a heck of a lot more than the current FSB speeds on the fastest systems. Also, in the video presentation, the president of Nvidia stated that the GPU would have access to all the ram in the system because of the huge data bus. That's 256megs of system ram with 256 megs of GPU ram. A total of 512 megs of usable ram by the GPU.

Epic got Unreal3 engine running on it in 2 months. That's quite amazing. And so was the video of it running on PS3 dev systems. I can only imagine what games would look and play like with this system in the hands of developers like Sega. Panzer Dragoon 4 oO oO .

After seeing the ff7 tech demo im in awe. It brings back so much memories. I know they wont release it on the ps2 though. But i will get the PS3 for other games like Soul Calibur series and maybe burnout series when they release it.

Amazing... simply amazing.....

I don't know which is going to be/look better, X360 or PS3, but I am curious about both systems. I'm not going to buy one though since I won't have the money for it anytime soon. But that killzone demo looked gorgeous, it made that FF7 technical demo look average IMO.

Microsoft will try and pour money into xbox360 to counter the ps3, But what microsoft dont seem to realise is, its the people who create the consoles and games that make the system great, Microshaft is probably throwing money at stupid and/or opportunistic people, where as sony is using clever people, Sonys tech demos were absolutely amazing, xbox360's was ghost recon.

I doubt any of these systems will be emulated for a LONG time. The FFVII demo looks really, really nice. I'm kind of excited about these new systems!:D
Perhaps it's easier to emulate PC games on the PS3 :p

>Don't forget that square enix is on xbox360 developer list too. it depends on how much M$ is willing to pay for them to sell out the DQ and FF franchise.

Indeed. They are porting FFXI to the XBox 360. However Square have also been quoted as saying that the main FF franchise will remain on Sony's machine.

I'm not a fan of the pad. I'm thinking I might have to get a converter to use my Xbox or PS2 pad on it. However, saying that, that was how I originaly felt about the XBox-S pad, but it grew on me.

edit: Holy crap, just saw the FFVII tech demo....
/me wants FFVII PS3 edition.

All controllers take a while to get used to I think, but the PS3 one seems too round to fit my hands comfortly. Also, it looks like it has only 2 triggers. (I've only seen the frontside yet)

What can I say.... sweet holy crap oO

The KillZone demo is enough to make you soil yourself, and the FFVII tech demo, looks loverly, of course I'd expected it to look 'simple', to keep with the original FF7 style of fairly flat colours, still...wouldn't it be nice for a '10th' anniversary remake of FF7... :D

MS just announced that they will have backwards compatibility and square-enix. Man.... I'm gonna have to get both x360 and ps3. There goes the money I was saving up for my pc.
Microsoft Corporation said unfortunately it will be limited backward compatibility. I’m guessing the worst case situation will be that less then half of original games will run. (if even that.)

He didn't mention when he's going to buy them :p
