I've just re-installed my WinXP (Pro) because there was an unrecoverable error with the old one, and guess what....after installing the latest ASPI driver (ver 4.71.2), I experienced the same problem like some people in this forum did, i.e. my c/dvddraft driver did not recognize my CD-RW and DVD drive. It only showed the Generic Stealth DVD drive from Daemon Tools in the C/DVD plugin list.

This is what I do to fix that problem:
1. download the ForceASPI from the net
2. run DUMPASPI to backup the current ASPI layer (optional)
3. run KILLASPI to remove the current ASPI layer (pls make sure that all ASPI components are completely removed. If you see "Access is denied" message(s), try to reboot your computer and run KILLASPI once again until all components are removed)
4. reboot the computer
5. install the new ASPI layer
6. reboot the computer

I don't know if this method would work for everyone, but, hey, it works for me :)

CDVD Draft didn't originally work for me if I left everything on Autodetect but when I changed the read mode to SCSI10 for DVDs or ReadCD for CDs then it worked.
Hmmm...the Autodetect function works for me, but it only works for media which have the same type with the drive being used. I mean, it works only if I put DVD into a DVD drive or CD into a CD drive. If I put CD into a DVD drive, the Autodetect function will fail and therefore I have to change the read mode to ReadCD.

uhm...mind explaining ASPI cd drives?
and possibly c/dvddraft, too???
ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. It is a software layer that enables programs to communicate with SCSI devices, such as CD-ROM and scanner.
c\dvd draft is cd/dvd rom plugin for pcsx2 created by Xeven. It enables the emulator to read any games data directly from your CD/DVD drives.

It still does not work with me even i changed setting from autodetect to ReadCD or SCSI10 ;i have installed different versions from ASPI drivers and only see my Cd-rom APi in Cd_Draft plugin but it does not work with my asus cd-rom but it work nice with daemon virtual cd

MGS2, are you sure that you've already removed the old ASPI components completely (no "Access is denied" message when you run KILLASPI)? If you leave even one component behind, and then install the new ASPI driver, I believe that you'll end up with the same result. FYI, I also have ASUS as my CD-RW and DVD drive.

i,m sure that i run KillDump.bat and KillASpi.bat then i run INSTASPI.BAT then restart ; then it see my asus cd-rom api but it does not run it even if i use the bios or not

-- edit --

and the following message appear to me even i use bios or not

"Unrecoverable error While Running the Compiler "

this message appear if you didn,t choice an elf file or iso one so that mean that it didn,t see my cd-rom correctly

MGS2, from your post, I assume that you only run KILLASPI once (CMIIW). I've already done some tests and it usually takes twice to completely clean all 4 components.

When you run KILLASPI.bat at the first time, it usually cleans three components (aspi32.sys, wowpost.exe and winaspi.dll), but leaving wnaspi32.dll untouched ("Access is denied" message appears). You need to reboot your computer and run KILLASPI.bat once again to remove that .dll. After you're sure that all components are removed, you can reboot your computer and install new ASPI driver safely.

What is the title of the game that you're trying to test? Does it have different result when you run the game's image using CDVDBin (e.g. showing the game's menu or just a black screen, instead of entering the BIOS screen)?

It runs ps2 logo then hangs(exactly crashes pcsx2) if i used CDVDBin ; in brief CDVDBin works right but when i read from cd directly the problem is arised as shown .

The game title is "Resident Evil (Code Veronica )"

--edit --

also ; when i leave cd-rom with inserting a ps2 game in it; it gives the same results and bios running and can not see if there is a game to read from asus cd-rom or not
