For those of you uninitiated, im throwing together a frag box (mATX) for Squall, who will then use it to go to war on Rap.

Specs:

NZXT Rouge (Blue Theme)
Asus Rampage II Gene mATX X58 ICH10R
Intel Core i7 920 2.66ghz
Corsair XMS3 12GB DDR3 1600
Corsair HX 620w Modular Power supply
Auzentech Prelude
Zalman 9700 Led
LG 22x DVD Burner
XFX GTX295 Single PCB
300 GB Raptor
1TB WD Black

Edit: Forgot the HDD's
Here's the deal.
The sound, video, cpu and ram is in flux. If they prices go down on more powerful parts, then thats what ill get.
The build date is late June or early July.

Wow. That's very close to what I have saved on my newegg.com wishlist. Is this built to your preferences or Squall's?

I chose OCZ Platinum 1600 12GB DDR3, LG 6X BD-R, and a Gigabyte board similar to the Rampage II.(Asus is getting too damn expensive these days >.<) I still haven't decided on a case or CPU cooler yet. BTW, what kind of HDDs are you looking at getting or does Squall plan on using his current ones?

I'll be PM'ing you Squalls updated address.

It so happens he moved to Canada. It also so happens to be my city and my street.
So he really moved to Canada? oO

$179.99 buys one on newegg right now. I'm only buying it for archiving as Blueray as a video format doesn't interest me. When prices come down, things might change for me.

Its true, i was drawn over by the high speed internet.

But anyway, I might squeeze the Blu Ray in there, but Squall was whining about needing a CD ROM drive....he's a legacy freak :p

LG H20L + Fan controller bay or gtfo! :p

Beautiful build Phillipo Grande

i still think you should get a surge protector.

i meant the controller in the top? :p

so it'd be better to go with the controlle bay then?

...i'll search newegg later for a decent one, watching the escaflowne movie atm

So that's what that build was for (you showed me the picture a few weeks back).

Wait, Squall-Leonhart can't build his own? Is this being done due to cheaper cost or something?

The build looks good, but the CPU cooler sticks out as a little weak amongst those parts. If you're getting 12GB of RAM and that kind of motherboard, surely you can do better than that on the cooler. Also, wasn't the GTX285 replaced by the GTX295? I haven't kept up with nVidia's lineup, but I thought that's how things went.

;) The cooler is more then capable. I've checked it out thoroughly (Besides, HT is going off right away, so there goes most of the heat)
The 295 is 2x GTX 260, its longer then the 285, and won't fit in the case. the 285 is the current single core king.

Can't say I would have done the same case. NZXT's are chinsey. The rest is nice, though. WTF are you going to do with 12gb of ram?
Virtualization projects which require alot of ram.

Video games are only set to use more and more ram, consider 12GB's well and truly future proof for a good while.

IIRC this will allow squall to increase his browser tab count from ~50 to ~200 while playing a game of Half Life 2 Cinematic Mods which atm require ~3.5gb ram
