From what I know, the architecture of a PC is completely different than a PS2. So a joint venture between Sony and the devs of PCSX2 wouldn't work since it would require a complete rewrite of PCSX2. Plus I'm sure that Sony thinks of emulation as piracy.

"sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz and feature 2.18 teraflops of performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz, a detachable 2.5 inch HDD slot, six usb 2.0 ports, Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, a compact flash memory slot, Compact flash slot, 2 hdmi outputs, 1 av multi out, 1 SPDIF optical output, and 1-gigabit Ethernet built in port""
these are the specs of ps3 it uses a cell proccesor thogh

The PS3 is far removed from a PC, the PS3's cell is a PPC core with SPE's which are much akin to the PS2's VU's.

This won't help PCSX2 in any way, how the hell your brain got to that conclusion is beyond reasonable science, or biological measurement. It'd be a compiled exe, it'd be encrypted, it's designed to run on a PS3 not a PC...etc etc I could go on, but meh, those are the three easiest points to get accross, especially to a guy that "has hope" for the ePSXe 2.0 shots on PSemu.pl, lmao, truly.

SONY wouldn't touch PCSX2 with a barge poll, or if they did that'd be the team signing NDAs and the PCSX2 project vanishing from the face of the Earth, and frankly the PCSX2 team wouldn't touch SONY with a barge poll.

After seeing the fantastic job Sony did with the PS1 emulator on the PSP i'm pretty sure we're gonna see a sweet ass PS2 emulator.

I suppose you meant PS3 here, didn't you?
Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry. What I meant is that if Sony used PCSX2 code for their PS2 software based emulator for the PS3 (which is not going to happen as CKemu said) it would require a complete rewrite. That's what I read on countless other threads on the same subject. It would be stupid if that happened anyways, the devs could no longer release the sourcecode of PCSX2 and release future versions of PCSX2 since Sony would ultimately have all rights to it (I presume). PCSX2 would be no more. Would everyone really want that? It's the same situation as the old KGen. Sega made a deal with Steve Snake to use a modified version of KGen so that they could make the Sega Smash Pack for the PC. Now we have Kega, which I believe is a complete rewrite of KGen.

i dunno, people say they want sony to ask pcsx2 for help, without realising 2 things.

1. They have WAY more info than us, so they know a lot more about how everything works.

2. If they did, everybody can say bye bye to pcsx2, cos youll never see another version again ;)

but its not gonna happen, pcsx2 will always remain free to use by the public.

PS3 can run PS2 games already ;)

yeh but thats what the emulator is for, sony arent writing one for the pc, the article was saying how they will slowly remove the ps2 hardware on later ps3's when the software improves

What refraction said is right : Right now, it seems that PS3 can play PS2 games because because it still has most of the PS2's hardware in it, which means cost goes up as well. They are now trying emulation so that they could remove the PS2 parts in there making the PS3 cheaper.
