yeah right? you wonder how zeon lost the war. they use amd and cyrix+directx for battles, how the hell are they suppose to win with those? gundams prolly had like intel and opelgl and stayed the hell away from windows so they won hehe.

HEY!!!

Don't you dis' AMD and Cyrix! If anime has taught you anything, you should know that the small, agile characters (AMD, Cyrix) are the heroes who win and big, lunky guys (Intel) are the powerful yet villainous losers!

well, it dont matter, cyrix is dead, and you can kiss your athlon cpu good bye if your cpu fan ever stops spinning cause they get so hot so fast that the moment the heat gets trapped the core melts(i used to work at a retail store and have seen too many of those lol). you cant have war and malfunctions at the sametime since that'd mean the battle has already been lost hehehe.

AFAIK, Cyrix isn't dead. They were bought by Via and are still manufacturing low-end chips for the value market (although I don't know why).

I've been using AMD for years, and so have my friends. I used to work at an Internet Cafe which used AMD chips. They also did custom builds and repairs. I've never seen this problem with fans falling off. The mobo always seems to go first for me.

mmmm im not talking about fans falling off lol, im talking about when the mortor on the fan stops working =). i know cyrix was brought by via, the cpu themselves are as good as dead though=).

btw old amd chips dont burn as bad but their performance sure suck real bad, the new ones are actually good for gaming if you ask me, but leaving it on all the time would not be recommended at all if you run athlons unless you have paied for some real nice heatsink+fan. there is a reason why most companies use intel for their machines, amd is not built for those type of things, they aim for cheap budget ppls and gaming while intel on the other hand is more on the stability side. from past experience companies using amd have had nothing but nightmares hehe. you can also see it when i used to build machines, the intel ones dont usually come back(store policy where i worked at was 1 year parts and labor warranty) while a ton of amds always come back to get fixed. i dont hate amd or anything, i really dont, it's the facts that force me to stay the hell away from it and the other choice was naturally intel for the better stability and my dual p3-1gig runs just fine and ive had it for over a year now which i almost never turn off =). encoding divx is really nice on this machine hehe, doesnt beat a p4 but gets the job done(30-50 fps encoding on 352x240@full quality is pretty nice if you ask me).

Most of the people I know buy good fans, and replace them on a yearly basis.

eh, i think you are missing the point with the whole fan thing. what im talking about is if sh|t happens, your athlon will most likely burn out before you can do anything about it =). while intels on the other hand will only shut itself off most of the time. back when i was using a p200mmx, my fan was broken for like half a year before i realized what was going on lol. that's why i cant stay away from intel =).

I used to have a PII 266Mhz with no fan. It came like that, it was a Compaq Deskpro EN series. The heatsink was *very* large and it did a fine job keeping the cpu cool, seriously. I still have the heatsink. What I did was when I sold the PII, I kept the heatsink and attached a Power supply fan to it and used it on my Celly 300. Damn fine HS/F.

AMD sacrificed being able to cope with extreeme heat for good price and good speed. IIRC, the Athlon XPs have better heat control circuits, and the thoroghbreads have even better ones.

well if you count the overall motherboard price+the cpu they are about the same price(athlon mobos are expensive as hell). and i doubt athlon xp is that much better on the heating thing. it'd most likely go up in smoke like the rest. im gonna stay the hell away from amd until it really gets better on the stability part hehe, although im prolly asking too much from amd.
