PCSX2.net is going to have an overhaul!
This time around there won't be a pair of panties with some "BRB" sign placed on the site!
PCSX2.net is going to have many backend changes (BE), totally fresh CMS, new tools for the testers and developers and various CPU load saving features, these changes will probably get comments or blog entries, but will never see the light of day outside of the team.
This said the frontend (FE) is also getting a massive overhaul, and we would like this process to have some "public" light shed on it, also feedback, comments etc
Over the course of the current designs operating time there have been many discussions between the team members over what can be added, removed, improved and generally fixed with regards to the site. Thus a redesign has been spurred once enough of these ideas cumilated to make it worthwhile.
Myself and Falcon4ever have also kept a eager watch over the forums for comments relating to the site, and have scoured the web for input, some of these changes where intergrated into the current design, such as compatibility filters etc. No matter how uninterested we appear, we do pay attention!
Tonight after several drafts, I have started the initial design phase for the site, purely Photoshop work, and doodles on bits of A4 with tags like "pulls out" or "505050" (HEX value for font colour)...

So whats of note in this image?
Well first of all, the blue has changed! Recently I aquired my first LCD monitor, one of the first things I did was load PCSX2.net, and nearly burnt out my retinas, thus the blue is no longer going to be as garish!...Sorry for all the eye's I ruined, I was on an eight year old CRT, my only defense!
Second thing to note is, I'm no longer sticking to the 800*y rule of web design, this rule is outdated and site browsing statistics suggest "most" of you are on 1024*768 or higher, frankly I have no time for 800*y users anymore, thus this site will use a 950*y design template (current design is on a 750*y template). Those 200 extra pixels will be put to good use, though that use isn't demonstrated in this early work.
TABS will be used, many of you will be familiar with drop down, or smooth sliding boxes that pop out once an area has been clicked on. This saves visual space, the news poster can post a "large" selection of screenshots without causing you the reader to scroll miles down the page to review older posts.
If a plugin, build or tool is released, the news post will always have direct link(s) to downloads. We already support Digg, Delicious, but these features where "tacked on", now these and potential others will be properly intergrated into the site.
Last but not least with regards to this image, Comments! We are going to allow for direct comments on PCSX2.net, its something you guys wanted, and with the new BE work can be achieved, there's alittle more to this than meets the eye, but that discussion can wait till later.
Obviously this is EXTREMELY early work in progress, so please no comments like "where's the menu?", "erm....logo goes where?" etc, sensible thoughts, opinions and commentry about the features we're adding are welcome. Note the image also contains some mild tidbits not covered in this post.
