Im not sure if its just my console or everyone's , but mine seems to have problems playing games smoothly in certain parts of FF10 , GS2 and always lags in GTA3 . Anyone with a PS2 and these games experience a lag in framerate ? I think in GTA3 I get a framerate of about 30 FPS . Everything is smooth in Gran Turismo 3 though....

Yeah, with a CD cleaner you don't have to open the PS2, only the lid, put the CD and follow instructions. but maybe the problem isn't the PS2, maybe the CD's are the problem. When I got Castlevania SOTN, it was brand new, and without scrachts and it have problems with the console!!!

Carnage : You mean its normal to lag in games especially GTA3 , and that the DVDrom is supposed to be that noisy ? Well... Rockstar developers must have been smoking then. Who would enjoy a game on a PS2 with 30 at the most FPS ?

Zerohal : Does that mean I need to get it repaired or replaced ? This is the only US Console they had in their shop though... and the warranty is void *ugh*

Well, alot of articles in various magzines state that programming for the PS2 is extremely difficult. Some developers get it no problem while others are still strugling with the PS1. Every PS2 drive I have ever heard is noisy. It's just a cheap Sony DVD drive, and Sony has never had that good a reputation in optical drives. Anyone ever see or experience an exploding CD in a Sony high speed drive? Happens to them alot. I've seen casings from Sony drives torn apart from shattered CD's and blown motor bearings.

yeah, the lagging thing happened to my roommate's ps2 really bad in ffX, especially during CGs, but during other scenes too.

eventually the damn thing just stopped working. it would come up with a disc read error every time we started it up, even after running the diagnostic. we just exchanged it for a new one tonight actually. and it was only a month or so old, and well taken care of. it's beyond me.

If it's not still under warranty, the flat rate for repairs from Sony is $110. That doesn't include tax, shipping, or other fees.

All this remembers me of the PS1,the same thing happened when it came out, strange huh?
Sony did the same error twice, when SEGA never did it(Saturn and DC),Nintendo has almost no problems when it is their first disc based console, and M$ is the same as Nintendo(if we take out the other problems that is:D ).
Sometimes I wonder if Sony doesn't do it on purpose?(you know,I guess they get more money from repairs than from sold consoles:) ).

$110 for repairs ..... Im quite convinced that Sony didnt really try to make better DVD/CD drives for their consoles . All these problems with PS' and not with other consoles...

Hmm , so Xbox is that sensitive eh ? I guess a Fast PC , Perfect ( although we'e no where near ) Emulators , USB-Controller plugs are still the best .

Hrm...thats odd....U mean ur ps2 is noisy like the dreamcast?! Thats bad. And Only some games lag. The only game that lags I experianced on my system was Silent Hill 2. That game sucks any ways... not even scary.
