Hey pete,

I've found two issues with MDECs that you may want to check out. If they're already resolved, then sorry for the annoyance, but I couldn't find any other posts regarding it on here so I thought I'd let you know.

First, a strange ePSXe bug (that may not be your fault)... When it's playing an MDEC, hit escape to stop the emulation and return to the menu. Then choose Run->Continue and the MDEC is suddenly much brighter than it was before. This only happens in the OpenGL driver and only when Advanced Blending is selected. Also, even if AB is selected, it doesn't happen when the options menu (DEL) is open... I hope some of this made sense... FYI, win2k, GF2MX, athlon 1200 if it makes any difference.

The other bug I've found only in one game - Einhander. In the opening MDEC, it looks like the red and green color channels are backwards (i think it's the red and green, but regardless SOMETHING is wrong with the colors). This applies to your DX and OpenGL plugins, as well as to all the emulators. The colors appear correct in the Peops driver. If the colors are wrong in other games, I haven't noticed it...

I hope this helps you. Keep up the great work on the plugins

I dl'd the version from your web site and tried stopping and continuing the emulation again to the same result. With the 1.56 (not b) version, the MDEC would keep getting brighter and brighter until the window was completely white. The 1.56b version does what I described to you...

*shrug* 's ok about the einhander issue. maybe someone else out there has seen a similar problem? otherwise i'll let you know if i find another game that has the same result...

hmmm

MDECS are the video type portions of games..primarily Intro's and cutscenes...
Final Fantasy games as mentioned use the most, but you will often see them in most game intro scenes.

XA is a sound format used in MDECS and can also be used during gameplay for voice overs for example. another format used that you may hear is VAG streams..It is another format used by Squaresoft and can be found in Final Fantasy 8 and 9

If you are curious to learn more visit the PSXFanatics Support Center.

XA audio is also one of the most common ways you hear music in games. Most CDs don't use CD-DA data since you can save more space with XA. With less room taken up by audio, you can add more graphics like MDECs.

I have the color problem with toca world touring cars. The patch I use, required to play the game, also has a PAL/NTSC selector. With PAL, the mdec colors are wrong, in NTSC they are correct but the screen's stretched too much (lines missing at the bottom because it's too large).
And yes, I'm using the very latest of pete's plugins.
I guess I might have to blame the patch, but is there a way to invert the colors or something?

Why MDEC slow on ePSXe??

I used pete's opengl plugins.. 1.56
on my computer.. the sound is lately on mdec and the motion little slow.. (i used pete's direct sound plugins)

I have download PSX movie player (i forgot the name) it runs very smooth on my computer...
I wonder why PS emulator much slower than PS movie player when playing MDEC??

Thanks alot.. :)

You have a patch that allows you to play World Touring Cars?? Please let me know where I can get it. I've been waiting for ages for this news.
